So I Made an Exhaust Video

So I used my pretty-much nonexistent video editing skills to throw together a quick video for anyone curious about the sound of an RX-8 with a straight-pipe in place of the cat, combined with a GReddy Cat-Back exhaust. Not sure if RX-8 Discussion is exactly the right forum to put this under, I just couldn't find anywhere else that seemed appropriate (granted that although it is specifically on a 2007 Series-I RX-8, I don't imagine it would sound all that different on a Series-II)... Mod please move if I'm wrong. :/

I tried avoid the typical YouTube exhaust video retard mistake of putting the camera RIGHT NEXT to the exhaust tip resulting in horrible distortion.

[EDIT] - Whoa, YouTube did some kind of anti-shake post-processing filter thing to fix the shakiness of the video that made it pan smoothly, but it also seems to have made some weird distortion effects that show up towards the beginning... Weird... O.o

Very nice sound, just like what mine sounds like too :)

Here's one of the early reject dud segments I ended up not having in the video, I just posted it because of the flame about halfway through.

That intake is probably costing you power. Instead of getting cold air from the bumper with stock intake you're sucking in hot engine bay air.

I couldn't even focus on the video. That car needs some severe cosmetic changes

If you listened to the video, he states the previous owner did the mod and he planned to change them.

exhaust shrouds need to go, other than that get the OE box and I have nothing wrong with it.

Oh i listened, it was still hard to focus :p

I was referencing the post above yours, at the end of the day its exhausting reading people impose their beliefs on someone else.

Remember back in the day when people didn't feel the need to berate you about your decisions. We were a more successful nation back then.

berate?? where am I doing that? I wasn't "imposing" at all. Just offering friendly advice. you read things where there are none to be read.

Yeah I already screwed up the paint on the exhaust shrouds anyway, and the car is actually getting a $5,000 paint job as we speak - it's becoming Electric Blue Pearl, Chrysler paint code PB5. It's a similar color to the WRX's World Rally (WR) Blue Pearl. I'm having them sand and paint the green exhaust hoods too, and also attach them permanently so they don't sag or look like they don't belong. And also the green bits at the front. The only green things left will be the rims, and part of the reason I'm getting rid of the other green bits is because when I move to CA in a few months I may possibly swap out the rims for whatever color looks good with Electric Blue. Maybe white?

Sorry if some people think my car should be more "subtle." There's really nothing subtle about an RX-8 in the first place (I bought it because it's such a novelty, really), and no car I own will likely ever be subtle, because subtle bores me. Stock tends to bore me. I can see how the greent accents might look ricey, so they're gone as of now anyway. I like the green wheels though, and I think they'll look good with the electric blue paint. If not, as I said, I will change them.

blazen, I actually have the stock airbox and it's in good condition, but my issue is that I don't have the little bit of duct tubing that attaches the back of the airbox to the engine intake... Can I buy that separately? I haven't been able to find it anywhere, without buying an entire new airbox setup. :/

To each his own - after all, it is your car. (I try to tell myself this with the "hellaflush" trend but I still haven't fully comprehended it yet :yelrotflm.)

I'm not sure as to exactly what part your in need of, so:

Perhaps that may help your search.

Best of luck and happy motoring!

HOLY HELL that's a lotta parts...

But thanks poach, I think I need Part #13-221A

Now I'm going to sit here and twitch while I anxiously wait for my newly-painted 8 to be finished on Friday afternoon.

OtherSyde 03-01-2014 01:46 AM

BTW I just looked up what Hellflush is... I mean we all like a wide-stance car that sits low - it looks really good, but completely slammed cars with those tiny little wheels sitting at weird diagonal angles just looks kinda dumb. Also, not trying to be racist, but I'm pretty sure that trend originated with the Latino community - at least those are the only people I saw doing it from 1998 all the way into early-mid-2000's before it caught on in the mainstream and everyone started doing it. Not my thing really, I prefer functionality of pure style...

And yes I know I have an Electric Blue car with neon green wheels, that irony isn't lost on me - I just won't do anything that would decrease performance for the sake of style alone. -_-

[EDIT] - poacher, I found the intake tube used in good condition on Ebay for $51 (as opposed to several hundred new), thanks.
