Smells like bullshit...
So my dealership called me back today saying the work on my 8's tranny would take till the middle of November because parts have yet to start shipping out and they insist on giving me a new tranny because that's what "Mazda said to do" (means I don't have my car in the meantime yes, haven't had it for 3 weeks now).
The original problem was the first time I ever shifted into 6th, it grinded horribly, after multiple consecutive attempts, all grinding, I made my dad try, and it grinded again. Took it to dealer and they said 6th is busted. So when they told me I had to wait till mid November, I wasn't happy, and we called back and started complaining. They then said I've also damaged/blown the 3rd gear syncro, and that the damage is all caused by me and thus I'm responsible for costs. Which is funny because I think I've used 3rd gear 2 or 3 times in the 2 weeks I drove the car. Now the question is.. I always go 1-2-4-5 when shifting. Dad claims that damages my tranny and the gears but he can't say why, doing some searching ended without a definite answer. I've never had a gear grind except 6th. The only thing I do know about the car is that the first 200 miles were done by a driver who took it from another dealership to me when I bought it. dealership never made an official inspection of the car after he did. It's got 700 miles on it, 09 model. So can the fact that I skip 3rd somehow damage 3rd to the point it'll blow the syncro on it? What about 6th? I've never ever used it, cept those repeated failed attempts. |
That is complete bullshit your right. My car had 20k miles on it and my 3rd and 4th synchros were busted but they were ALSO replaced.
It is garbage to blame you for driving the car for 700 miles. Sounds like these new tranny's are just as bad as ours. Sad...take it to another dealer. |
bullshiiiiiitttt
i dont even know how you can bust 6th gear... 2nd gear sure, 3rd gear yeah, 4th.. ok... 5th maybe... but 6th? 700 miles? screw that. call MNAO. |
rofl ? how often do you actually use 6th gear ?
I'll say maybe less than 10% of the time. take the new tranny and call it a day. |

I don't have a choice, but they're trying to blame it on me, saying I busted 3rd and 6th gear somehow within the 500miles I drove it. So they're trying to make me PAY for the tranny and labor. They're also keeping it for 2 months, it's already been 3 weeks. |

Anyway, Thats utter Bullshit, you didn't even piss about a tranny that has gone to heaven in couple hundred miles. and now they're blaming u for it? ROFL Thats some really messed up dealership right there. complain to MNAO or just push your car outa that dealership and drive it somewhere else |
I went through the same thing, you need to take it to a different dealer.
I had one dealer actually tell me it WAS NORMAL for 2nd gear to grind at 4K rpms and THAT I WAS RISKING VOIDING MY WARRANTY DUE TO ABUSE by shifting at 4K or higher. I took it to a mazda dealer 20 miles down the highway and got a new trans warrantied, then that dealer told me 20K miles later that they could not warrany my trans leak because it was caused by abuse, soooo When I moved to california last year, I took it to another sacramento dealer and they warrantied it .....noticing a pattern. |
yeah, definitely take it to another dealer. complain to MNAO.
"faith in mazda has been shattered" etc. |
Alright thanks guys, that's what I figured.. what about gear skipping?
Calling Mazda tomorrow |
Gear skipping causes no harm to the transmission. They are seperate gears with separate syncros and I see no way in hell you can break a gear by skipping over it.
|
I'm guessing I should have called Mazda NA when the dealer I took i to in oakland curbed my rim and threw some black paint on it. Can't believe I let it slide.

That's what I thought, thanks |
MazdaUSA gave me a call back today, a tranny is being priority-shipped from Japan to the dealership and will be there for next week, dealership has till Friday to give me a car, either mine, or a brand new one.
It's fully covered by warranty and they had a few nasty words to tell the dealership. So it's all sorted on both ends. All I did was give the agent a brief descript of the problem, and my VIN. She took care of the rest, contacting managers, who initiated a conference call with Mazda HQ in Japan, and they sent out a tranny ASAP. It's getting flown to the US over the weekend. Go Mazda woo |

Good for you! Glad the prob was able to get solved. I can't believe some of the horror stories I hear from dealerships. It is pathetic.
|
Ah, its wonderful to hear a dealership get set straight.
Glad everything worked out for you. |

Yep, MazdaUSA were really helpful, got the job done quickly, effectively, and professionally and they were very communicative.
My dealership just sent me a "Rate our quality" survey also.. Hehe.. hehehe.... hehehehe.. *evil grin* :evil_laug |
bash them in the rate.. but then look for a different dealership
|
congrats, glad its all getting taken care of. I would have been furious. You seemed so calm.

I was quite liberal with my language over the phone with the dealership's managers though and made no attempt to conceal how pissed off I was by the way they handled the situation. You should see the "Additonal thoughts/notes on dealership" on the survey I wrote, it's quite harsh and scalding, but they deserved it. (survey goes to MazdaUSA fyi) I await Monday impatiently now hehe So yea... moral of the story.. if dealership is being an ass, call MazdaUSA, they'll set em straight pronto. |
I hate it when things go wrong at a dealership... lucky for me, I live right next to MNAO and I go to the dealership that's about 3 miles away from it. :)

Oh! I bet i know! The people who believe skipping gears is harmful are retarded! |
wow, glad to hear things are getting set straight...we would never pull anything like that at my dealership. how would anyone, especially a shop full of techs, figure a car with less than 1000 miles could suffer from any kind of abuse. i think the only thing you could ruin in 1000 miles with abuse would be a clutch, and you'd really have to want to kill it. I mean, warranty is there just for this reason....and if the tranny has a fault that can be found, warranty would cover it no questions asked with that many Ks on the car. Good luck with the rest of the situation. Its no wonder dealerships get the nickname stealerships...

Don't take it to the drag strip anymore....
