There is a thread in the Tech forum detailing everything you could imagine about premixing. Basically I pour in about 6 or 7 ounces before I fill up. Keeps the apex seals lubricated.

My 1 liter (0,26 gallon) container (previous content: 4 stroke oil) filled with fully synthetic 2 stroke oil. It has a very useful long screw-on/pull-out pouring spout that reaches into the gas filling opening; the spout allows very accurate pouring (content and location).
And the location in the trunk, hold in place with two elastic straps which I draw /do slip over the top of the spout and container (I do not use the strap of the airpumpbox; to much work/trouble). Best regards, Ruud |

It's easier to premix the premix by pouring your choice of dose (I use 8 oz) into a cleaned up Ensure bottle (wide mouth fits the gas fill perfectly, nice cap). I keep a couple under the hood on top of my GTSPEC braces. Location circled in picture. No rags or funnel required, also no threat of leaking on trunk carpet.

Kit? lol. It's just a 16 ounce bottle and a shop rag that sit in the little pocket of the drivers door panel. You reach down to pop open the fuel door, you're reminded to grab the bottle and rag. The bottle pours directly into the fuel hole with no need of a funnel. Then you pump the fuel and it washes the oil down the tube and mixes itself. Couldn't be simpler.
Buy the 2 cycle by the gallon and keep it at home. When you empty your in-car bottle leave it laying in the floorboard to remind yourself to refill it when you get home. The gallon jug can be bought for $10-15, and if you run a fat 2 cycle ratio like myself, that's enough for 8-9 tank fulls of fuel, so the cost is reduced to <$2 per tank. Cheap insurance when weighed against the cost, time, and inconvenience of an engine replacement. |
Thanks...that makes a lot more sense. But why call it premix if you're not actually mixing fuel/oil? Now, what about type of oil? Is there a consensus on that?

We call it premix because more people know what kind of oil "premix" oil is, from lawn care and boat/etc use, as opposed to "2-cycle". Obviously "premixing" 12 gallons of fuel is not feasible, but they still know what oil we are talking about. |
Thanks... that makes more sense.

Poor Idemitsu into measuring bottle, tilt bottle to separate exact amount needed and poor that into small bottles.
No funnel needed when at the gas station :) Attachment 247990 |

I use these clear condiment squeeze bottles.
They have a little snap on cap and cost about a buck at Wal-Mart. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg Use a sharpie to mark off 4 oz increments. After fill up just squeeze in the desired amount. No pouring, no funnels, no rags, no mess. |

Water bottle with a marker to show 6oz. Store that and the bottle of Idemitsu (For refill at the pump) in the trunk to cabin pocket thingy.

I am very much on the fence about starting to premix @ 77k miles, and if I were to start, I'd probably do a combination of these two bottles; the condiment bottle to pour a controlled amount into the marked off Lucas Oil bottle, then dump it into the tank.

Do you guys like one 2stroke oil from another? Or it does not matter any brand is ok? Ive been going to autozone and just picking up autozne's brand. What are you guys using?
|
I use the mid range stuff -somewhere between lawnmower 2stroke and fully synth. racing oil . Synthetic is too pricey here so I buy 4l containers of Castrol 2T semi synthetic.
|
k so castrol 2t

^^^ Hey buddy, just buy some Idemitsu premix... :)
|
^I fill up 2-3 times a week........ you do he math for the Idemitsu lol
|
Try TWC-3 Pennzoil Marine Synthetic Blend.
|
I just started premixing last night... I took the advice in this thread (pennzoil TWC3) and used a small container of lucas fuel injection treatment to pour it in... (I am a container hoarder :D)
I think this will be standard practice from here out... ~5oz to 13 gallons here... I could not fine Idemitsu anywhere... I assume its an online order only item? I found a case of 12 for 85 shipped... seems a little pricey... |
I was using about 6oz of Pettit's Protek since I only live an hour away from them. And I just carried the 1gal jug in my cargo net and poured it straight in. Before I got lazy and just used the bottle I used a fluid measure thingy I bought at Advance, just filled it to 5 or 6 ozs, then twisted the release and it poured down a hose that was fed into my tank. Then I realized it was just a hell of a lot easier to just pour it in before I fill up.
To you non "rotary" 2 stroke users out there. I haven't been able to get down to Pettits in months and I've ran outof Protek. I tryed going to every auto parts store in town, Advance, Bennetts, Nappa, and was trying to order Royal Purple's two stroke but apprently it's impossible for some reason now. Im just using what ever TCw3 I can find now. Poor cat but I'm getting a mid pipe eventually. |

seems a little pricey... I've ordered through Mazdatrix and they ship fairly quickly. |

Does it matter using a synthetic blend premix if dino oil is used in the engine?
