shes got me on lock down
dammit. i have wheel locks and NO KEY..
ok couple questions here... ONE Do these Rx8's come with factory wheel locks? Mine has them but i bought it used so im not sure if it was factory installed or aftermarket. TWO If they are aftermarket, how many different companies make wheel locks? And how could i find out who made mine so i can try to buy the keys? THREE how possible is it that the mazda stealership would have a variety of keys they could use to try and remove my wheels so i dont have to buy them myself. FOUR has any one else ever been stupid and forgot to make sure they had the keys BEFORE buying their car? :banghead: |
1. yes
2. N/A see answer 1 3. They wont 4. no you are the only one FIY the key for the locks came attached by a wire tie to one of the tire changing tools in the trunk. Have you checked there? |
just get a socket that BARELY smaller than the key...get a hammer and hammer in the socket over it nice and evenly, then get a breaker bar and get to it...
If you go to a good wheel or tire shop they have tools to get those off....a lot easier than you would like ;)
The stealership has a generic key that can unlock them for you if all else fails.
did you look in the trunk against the back bumper there is a plastic lid. pull that off and see if your key is in there

there is a envelope in ur manual about the wheel lock. theres like a number where u can send one in for like 10$.
I think that the stealership can order a new key for your wheel locks. It will probably be $$$, but otherwise you'll have to throw away the locks once you get them off.
$40 for a new key
look at my post, thats EXACTLY what i did..took my less than 5 minutes to get all of em out...
20mm socket + torque wrench. Ive had many of wheel locks to get off :)
Impact Gun for the Win.........they aren't good for much but they sure are nice for this :)
I'm starting to feel a lot less secure about the safety of my rims...
^you should, the ones from mazda are sooo easy to take off...with the right tools and knowledge those things come off SO easy
:) I know someone with 4 different wheel locks on each wheel :) I think I might visit his place and take them off just to mess with his mind
trade you mine for front and rear rotary accents and a a few gallons of idemitsu premix :D
I got my 8 with locks and no key... took all of a couple minutes to rectify the problem...
I used something similar to this: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...00100600&aff=Y |
^ although not available at sears, rumor is a CNHK can resolve the locked issue as well

I am with u dozer I have had hundreds off with the socket and hammer yeah this is not just mazda wheels any car with facory wheels locks will work as long as there is enough room in the wheel for the socket to fall down over it

ya know, I'm a big Chuck Norris fan and recognize that he's solved the world's problems twice over and simply can't tell us about it, but I had no idea what a CNHK was until you gave away the answer :)
