Sharp/ Fast turns and grinding sound...
Well, i have a 2004 8,ITS ALL STOCK except for the KN filter panel...anyways everytime i make a sharp turn or even a turn (mostly on left turns, but sometimes right turns) while going maybe 20+ it makes like a grinding kind of sound or like something is rubbing against something(tires?)...from the back of the car. Has anyone else had this problem too? Do you guys have a clue what it could be?

likely something rubbing against something.. you must be a master tech of something.
crazy idea. but put the car up on jackstands and see if you see something loose.. btw, you dont mention if the car is stock or give any help at all. go figure.. you might look at the faqs. lots of good ideas in that thread. beers  |
Duh?
Look underneath the car. Hay! my light just wnet on my dash. It's a picture of a radiator. What do you guys think it could be ? I agree with Swoope... use some common sense, otherwise you get :flamed: big time. |
it could also be DSC do you have it on...because if the turn is to sharp it will come on and make an ugly noise
|
wheel well loose. Thats what my grinding noise was last year, then I hit a pothole and ripped the wheel well off and ran it over with my rear tire and my grinding stopped.
|
I'm betting that VS8 has the correct answer.
The OP doesn't say if this happens on right, left or all corners. That would help. |

I had something similar - bad grinding when turning sharp at slow speeds.
Dealer replaced differential fluid and it stopped. They said they drained and refilled it twice. |
I think VS8 may be right too... a loose wheel well or similar issue would make noise, but not just when cornering, unless its coming from the front

Well, looks like VS8 WAS right i tried it today, turned off the DSC and pulled off a few turns and there's was nothing.
|
i'll say it could be the DSC!
|
i had the same thing and i turned off my dsc and it went away too......
|
yeah might b time to replace diff lube if it has been awhile!!1
|
^ he's right.
when i first bought my 8 i had a very slight parking lot speed "crunch / grind" sound. Soon as I re-oiled that differential, and just gave it some time with my awesome breaking in ability when it comes to cars.. It is completely gone. Tbh with you folks this car ages like a fine wine. Mine is faster, tighter, crisper & smoother then ever. :Eyecrazy: |
Bingo!

I would say also check your brake pads. I had MT pads on my AT (when I had the AT) and they would make a grinding sound. Dont know why but thats all I can think of.
