Seven Years with the RX8

69740 miles on a Silver Grand Touring. Like every silver car I've owned it was a dent magnet attracting knuckleheads to bump their doors into. Despite careful parking and longer walks.

55000+ on the highway, 6th gear. Never over triple digits on the public highway, but was able to manage 135 at Texas Motor Speedway.

3 sets of plugs (one thanks to flooding), a set of Bilstiens at 60K, a battery, and a set of coils/wires, two sets of Dunlops. Oh yeah a K&N too. Oil & filter every 3000 miles, and a red line at least once every 100 miles.

Compression was getting weaker. Car ran well but you could tell the engine was getting a wee bit tired. Way too soon. It will probably go well past 100K, but I'm not waiting.

Goodbye RX8, hello CX9 AWD.

Thanks to all who post here; lots of good info.

This car replaced a Porsche 928 and served really well; the 928S made it 150,000 miles but I probably spent more on parts then I paid for the RX8. Handling was easily as good as the Porsche. I didn't really miss the V8 torque at least not that much.

Get the itch for another rotary... as much as my rotary makes me angry Mazda has given me a rotary itch that I feel will never be cured...

When I sold my 8, I test drove a 2012 Mustang, 2012 Camaro, 2012 Genesis Coupe, Rx-7 (couldn't get a loan because of the age of the car) CX-5 (great car just huge dealer mark-up at the time) and eventually was planning on getting a BRZ but I needed a car for work and couldn't wait anymore so I eventually ended up buying an 8 again from a forum member... from Ohio because all the local 8's were in rough shape. It's hard to find a car that compares to the 8, especially for the same price of the 8. You'll end up getting a cheap, tacky looking interior with mediocre features unless you're paying something out of the price range of an 8. Especially the Hyundai... interior was awful and sounded like a G37 that has recently recovered from a drug addiction.

Unless you need a more family oriented vehicle, you'll end up missing the car, despite the horrible gas mileage and under-powered performance. Though, my first 8 was my first car so maybe that's why I was a bit more biased towards it. I sold it to a member on here and he backed it into a tree about a month after I sold it to him :suspect:...

I know what u mean. I have an 05STI that's my play car. Fully built, rotated turbo kit etc etc...but still enjoy my 8 more

At least you picked a Mazda again. Good luck with the CX-9.
