Selling Rx8 Gt for exige

Saying good bye to my 2004 Rx8 and getting a 2006 Lotus Exige what do you guys think about an exige over an rx8?

onewhippedpuppy 05-02-2012 01:18 PM

The scalpel of cars. The daily routine of crawling in and out, the harsh ride, and limited storage might get old as a daily driver. But there are few cars better for a twisty back-road or racetrack. My neighbor just bought an Evora and still owes me a ride, but what a beautiful car.

id go for an evora for a DD over an exige

tcole6 05-02-2012 01:37 PM

Dude, yes. I love my rx8, would trade that sucka tomorrow...well if I had the cash.

jasonrxeight 05-02-2012 06:00 PM

I thought they were in completely different price brackets. even used Elises are around 40k...
what do I think? its a fun car.

tcole6 05-02-2012 07:28 PM

Thus the need for cash to go with that trade.

elle 05-02-2012 07:37 PM

lol, hmmmm, should I trade my $1k for $10k??

I mean, I really like my $1000, so what do you guys think???

Joe-the_tattoo_artist 05-02-2012 09:24 PM

/\ zing!

monchie 05-02-2012 11:48 PM

Go for it. It's not our money, its yours, good bye.

dozer 05-02-2012 11:54 PM

my other favorite car, if i were you i'd do it.

timmytriangles 05-02-2012 11:57 PM

probally the only thing that handles better, if u can afford it hav fun with it!

Deadly Crow 05-03-2012 11:54 AM

well i can keep both the rx8 and buy a exige also but I dont want 3 cars it is too much work one sport car and one regular driving car is enough. I am not trading rx8 for a exige if that was your thoughts.

onewhippedpuppy 05-03-2012 12:03 PM

Hopefully you don't end up missing that cash. My last sports car was a 2003 Porsche 911. I loved the 911, it was my fourth 996 generation 911 and all have been fantastic cars. But you know what? I don't feel like I'm giving up anything with the RX8. It might not have the sex appeal and it isn't as fast in a straight line, but it puts just as big of a smile on my face and it's actually easier to live with on a daily basis. Best of all, my 2005 RX8 with 22k on it was less than half what I sold the 911 for.

Deadly Crow 05-03-2012 01:31 PM

Just like you in your 911 I love go cart type cars i dont really care much for interior or loud music i just want a go cart low car that is a race car. Lotus exige is perfect for that.

AJRx892 05-03-2012 02:20 PM

like you said you already have a DD so go for it.

Heeroguy 05-03-2012 02:30 PM

i had a exige S (supercharged) for a weekend, and my r3 is the only car that i have been in or driven that can handle anywhere near it, but dont get me wrong the exige is better, but lots mor money, seats can kill your spine after long ride 1-2+ and hard excelerations hurt spine too,

but for some reason that never bothered me the whole time, biggest issue for me was getting in and out althought not horrible just a choir, im 6'2 190 lbs btw.

visibility is crap on the road, but on track no biggie, if you want for a weekend car and tracking etc get it it wont let you down, but as a DD i would avoid

R80MAV 05-03-2012 04:26 PM

id definitely get an exige if i had the money, i love the rx8 but that is a pretty worthy upgrade

Deadly Crow 05-04-2012 12:03 AM

I am 5"8 160 lbs so it will be nice to get in and out wont be much of a issue

jasonrxeight 05-04-2012 10:07 AM

short wheel base + engine in the middle. you gonna have such fun doing trail braking into a corner.
I remember there was this cocky guy at autocross showed up in a spotless yellow Elise and spun out hit a cone sideways at the FIRST corner. pretty big black mark on the side of his car.

Keep thinking that :) No matter what size you are, they're not comfortable cars; they're great track toys.

I know a few people with elises. The one time one of them tried to use it as a DD, the hot/cold cycles cracked the radiator. They love them, but somethings always in need of repair and it's such an amalgamation of parts finding spares is a bit of a pita.

Oh, apparently the shift nob falls off so you might want to buy a non-stock one :)

As the former owner of a Land Rover, I must inform you that these little issues on British cars are called "character".:)

I actually considered (briefly) a Europa a long time ago. I remember getting in was something like limbo on down mon, stick a leg out and...

I liked the one review of the Evora where he said it was the first Lotus where he could get out without ending up sprawled across the parking lot with his foot stuck through the steering wheel.

Nope

Prophet 05-07-2012 12:29 PM

Not what I would get for a daily driver, but sure would get one for a weekend/track car!
