Selling my R3. How much tho?
 

I have a blue 2010 R3 with soon to have 18k miles in excellent condition. No work done to it, all stock.

Blue Book price has it at $25,056

My deal is with the Rx-8 not being made anymore and the harder to find R3 edition, I could understand the price of it going up in the future.(but i have to sell it soon)

Could I get more?
How much do I sell it for?

It is a mass produced modern Japanese car. While I really enjoy mine overall they were not a big hit in the marketplace, hence no more RX8. You don't get much less collectible than that, R3 or no. You'll be doing well to get book value.

want to gauge the price of your "hard to find" edition compared to the more common counterparts and whether the price will be very different in the future? Take a look at pricing of the 2005 Shinka RX8s and compare them to the regular edition rx8s. There were only 1357 produced. Not going to get much more rare than that for the 8s. This will give you a better idea of the "investment value" of your R3.

there's no real way of knowing if your car's value will increase as it gets older. If you want to count on it as an investment, selling the car 2 years after production, isn't going to do you any good. that can be said of anything though. look at beanie babies for instance, Thomas Kinkaid paintings, Precious Moment figurines... all of which were considered collectors items and worth investing... and... then the market vomited them back into the streets with the rest of the refuse swirling around in the gutters. Cars should be bought for enjoyment... not on the hunch it'll become a collectors item / investment.

My buddy just paid under 19k for his immaculate Aurora Blue 09' R3 with 15k or so on it.

Yep. Paid about 20k for my son's 09 R3 with 19 thousand miles. Look at the for sale forums here. Couple R3's I've watched STAY "for sale" for months while the price dropped. NFW you're gonna get anywhere close to 25k. Start around 21 and make a deal from there.

2 years back dealer in Wayne, Nj was willing to let go for a brand new R3 for $26500 so 28k for an R3 with 6k miles is a rip off in my opinion.

You know, not all collector cars where successful in their day. R3's had pretty low production numbers and may be worth a few bucks 15 years or so down the line. Nothing astronomical I'm sure, but could be worth a bit.

These are a little more realistic than Blue Book, which tends to be on the high side.
You should also look around & see what similar cars in your area are going for.

The car won't sell anywhere near blue book. You will be lucky to break 20k on a trade in or private sale.

True, but do you really see a significant amount of sentimental value (normally drives collector car values) for an RX8 in 40 years?

Another way to look at it, you can buy a MINT FD RX7 today for $20k. I've seen drivers down to and below $10k. So 20 years later what is arguably the best and most desirable rotary powered car ever made is selling for less than half the new price.

Blue Book is soooo wrong on RX-8s. I bought mine brand new (100 miles on the clock), one model year late, for less than what Blue Book said it was worth used. With the 100 miles. In fact, with another year of depreciation on the calendar, KBB is STILL higher than what I paid.

It'll be a few years until prices stabilize after all the $10k cars with flaky service histories get junked, leaving just the quality cars.
