So in your opinion, why do you feel the manager should have known right off the bat that you were serious with your new-found religious belief that you shouldn't work on Saturday?

Seriously...

I don't think there's a boss on this planet that is going to actually believe a worker that comes in on a Monday and tells him/her that they went to church yesterday for the first time, and they can't work on Saturdays anymore because of their new-found religious belief.

Face it. The Religious discrimination you feel took place, didn't. You had a boss that did not belive your intentions, plain and simple. It wasn't that he was discriminating against you; it was that he didn't know there was even anything there to discriminate against...

The angle you're trying to work:

Employers must reasonably accommodate employees' sincerely held religious practices unless doing so would impose an undue hardship on the employer.
Won't work for you, because you went to church 1 day you will NOT be able to prove in a court of law that the beliefs you came into realization that day are going to be "sincerely held religious practices". I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way. You may be able to make a stink, but at the end of the day, the court system is NOT going to define "sincerely held religious practices" to mean going to church ONE time...

Maybe if your timeline were different, but as you've already stated in the very first post, you went to church on Sunday, the VERY NEXT DAY you told your Boss you couldn't work Saturdays anymore, and the VERY NEXT FRIDAY (only 5 full days since going to church for the first time), you quit your job.

Good luck, man, if you do try to sue. You're going to have a very, very hard time convincing anyone that 1 day of church creates deep-seeded religious beliefs.

Drop on down to the "Sincerely Belief" section here:

http://www.eeoc.gov/policy/docs/religion.html

Specifically, this portion loses the case for you:

If the Respondent disputes that CP’s belief is “sincerely held,” the following evidence may be relevant:

Oral statements, an affidavit, or other documents from CP describing his or her beliefs and practices, including information regarding when CP embraced the belief or practice, as well as when, where, and how CP has adhered to the belief or practice; and/or,
1 day ain't gonna' cut it for 'ya. Not likely, anyhoo. It also hurts your case that you were attempting to negotiate unemployment pay, as that will kill your arguement due to these three reasons:

whether the accommodation sought is a particularly desirable benefit that is likely to be sought for secular reasons; whether the timing of the request renders it suspect (e.g., it follows an earlier request by the employee for the same benefit for secular reasons); and whether the employer otherwise has reason to believe the accommodation is not sought for religious reasons.
Basically, you will lose. Sorry, but you'd be best just to move on, sell the car, get your shiite together, and learn from this for the future.

I hope you also follow the rest of God's laws:

Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)

Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)

Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9) Have you ever done that?

If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10).

If a man sleeps with his father's wife... both him and his father's wife is to be put to death. (Leviticus 20:11)

If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death. (Leviticus 20:14)

If a man or woman has sex with an animal, both human and animal must be killed. (Leviticus 20:15-16).

If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18)

Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27)

If a priest's daughter is a *****, she is to be burnt at the stake. (Leviticus 21:9)

People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18)

Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community. (Leviticus 24:14-16)

You could always follow the story of Lot, and offer your daughters up as prostitutes to the sodomite villagers so they will not harm the Angels, flee the city, and then have sex with both daughters over multiple nights.

Or you could just go to ******* work and keep religion out of your workplace. You got fired, not laid off.

Again, you dont read...Where in my first post did I say I went to church on Sunday? Nowhere. In my first post I should'nt have said "In November I started going to church" because I had'nt gone yet but I knew that is what I wanted to do. I was trying to give a brief discription on what happened.

Before I told him I needed Saturdays off I told him that ever since I was born til I was about 14 I went to church. I then proceeded to tell him I wanted to follow my religion again. He messed up, he then should've asked more about it. He didnt, he just said I'll have to talk to the owners...then came out not even 5 mins later with"no I cant give you Saturdays off". He also told me he never asked the owners because he didnt have to.

It's people like you who make "religious tolerance" so difficult. No one is under an obligation to listen to your testimony, or which mythical creatures you do or don't believe in. This world doesn't come to you on a platter just because you believe Christ is your Lord and Savior and thereby you should get every Saturday off. Not only was there not employment discrimination, but I'd hardly call you a follower of the Lord with your attitude of entitlement. Maybe you should take some time to consider what Jesus would do or what he taught; things like "walking in the other person's shoes" and "forgiveness." Think about it from your employer's perspective, for a moment, at least.

If your not asleep when Santa comes he doesn't bring you any toys.

Same thing goes for the toothfairy.

you gotta know the rules to get the rewards.

so it was kind of interesting to watch in a look at that train about to hit that bunny kind of way but i think the religious back and forth should probably end. if we can't get back on topic this thread will surely get locked and hopefully deleted.
