Securing license plates on dashboard?
i got harrassed once for not having my front plate, i put it back on, paid the fee, then took it back off, now i just carry it in my trunk and have the excuse that i dont have the bracket...
on the front it negatively effects air intake, especially on the 6 ports with the secondary intake that opens behind the front grill.
luckily we're only required to have 1 plate on the rear. (it use to be 2 plates by law, but changed it some years ago).
I've seen some rx8's mount it on the lower left or lower right side.
if it were me i'd use some zip ties and mount it to the bottom air dam and let it drag on the pavement.

i honestly don't see how that could be true since the secondary opens at a certain rpm in which you would be going fast enough to effectively ram the air in
i don't like to pay money for something as stupid as having a license plate. i tried to fight the law and guess what the law won. Sucks but i'm not about to pay fines for something like that. i likes my money where it is.
Opponents of two license plates usually do not like front plates on certain sports cars and historic cars because of their visual obtrusiveness from the vehicle. (For example, a Car and Driver reader wrote in to the magazine to point out that the Mazda RX8 looks like Bugs Bunny when so equipped.)
don't put it on the dash. As some have pointed out, that is not a legal way of displaying the plate. (in most states)
Just go without it unless they are SUPER strict in your area, in which case you just bite the bullet and mount it on the front bumper

Don't forget the fact that in california, it is illegal. If a cop sees you having it up on your dash, they know you are deliberately breaking the law. More so than not having a front plate displayed at all. They will be more urged to pop you for it.
i drove around today with my plate stuck to the top passenger corner of the windshield. inside of course. used double-sided tape. the car looks soooo much better. unfortunately every single cop was giving me the evil eye.
edit: i just sent an email to every 141 delegate and 47 senators maryland has asking to repeal the front license plate law. you guys should too.

I have mine up in the front window. Last time I tried to use the "I have no bracket" excuse, they gave me a $96 fine. *Please note, the 'improperly restrained child seat' ticket is $65....* I took it out of the windshield because I needed to defrost my window, and that's the ONLY day I've been stopped with it like that, and I've been driving my cars around with it like that for at least 2 years. The cops around here don't mind, I suppose.
If I could get away with no plate up front, though, I'd hit that.

The top half of that front air damn is solid plastic behind the honeycombs. A license plate does virtually nothing to affect airflow in the 8 since most of the air passes through right underneath it..
