Second Brake Squeel
 

My brakes are squeeling AGAIN. I had them do the brake squeel TSB about 5k miles ago at 15k. Now they are squeeling again at 20k. I want to just tell them to replace them again when I bring it in for the recall. Will they replace it under warranty again??

Is this a problem with all RX-8s? I'm new to the boards, it sounds like this is a known issue. However, I know that if you don't grease the back of the brake pads before you place them into the calipers that they have a tendency to squeek. Could that be your issue?

I took mine in the other day to get the squeal fixed, They said that they couldn't replicate the sound because it has been raining for the past few days. So I am meant to take it back in sometime, funnily enough about 20 minutes away from te dealer the sound came back. Is replicating the sound sometihng they have to do even though it is a known problem and my car fits in the TSB?

I had 2 brake squeels. Just yestedray i picked up my car off the second brake job warrenty covered. Mazda informed the dealer that theres updated ships and bads to reduce the noise in addition they cut the rotors. They said due to the rust build up on the rotor causeing the squeel. We'll see what happens in the future.

Don't suppose you have anything in writing from Mazda?
My dealership won't do ANYTHING (TSB) unless theres some sort of documentation.

FWIW - I had the brake pads on my '05 replaced at around 10k...the new replacement pads started squealing almost immediately afterward. I now have >12k on my car and the squeal has almost completely gone away (?!).

I got mine done about 6k and about 500miles later they started squeeling again. I painted my calipers the day after they did my TSB and now have 8,500miles on my car. I want to take it back in to have them redo the brakes but I know they are going to say that painting the calipers is causing them to squeel. I know thats not the case but they will say anything so they don't have to fix them.

Your brakes wont squeal as much if you brake more aggressively.

I had the pads replaced with the ones in the TSB at 10,000 miles, I'm now at 18,500 and I have no squeal what so ever.

I had mine replaced with 5k miles on my car...1 month after they replaced them. The sound is back and now worse than ever.

They say it because of what they make the breaks out of too much metal compound.

My dealer will not do another recall either. I think I might just buy some different brakes too put on them.

You need to use your brakes more aggressively.

Whenever my brakes start squealing I just do a couple aggressive stops (being sure to not get caught at a street light or else you could end up making the brakes worse) and the squealing goes away.

If it really bothers you could have your pads changed to just a plain old consumer pad.

Mine has returned as well. I had mine replaced at 1k miles when it first started, now at 6k and it is back... so wait..

I had the TSB done and I'm taking mine back in tomorrow for the same thing. The squealing is loud and unacceptable.

The problem with braking aggressively is that it causes the person behind you to brake even more aggressively. :D

Look up "bed-in" or "bedding-in" thru search feature. Already a ton of positive results from RX-8 owners who took the time and followed the direction on making repeated and controlled stops from high-speed for adherent friction material transfer from pad to rotor. You will need to perform the procedure, periodically every 5-10k miles depending how hard you use the brake. Under normal street braking, the abrasive friction will eventually eat away the adherent friction material.

Stop taking the car back to the dealer in the hope of getting the magical fix. There is no magic, just common sense for a high-performance brake system that uses aggressive pad material. I fully expect the brake system on RX-8 to generate more noise than other consumer-grade cars when we can out-brake a Porsche!
