Seafoam or Lucas?

Which is better?
Seem to be the same...ie put in gas or oil
do the same

9krpmrx8 12-04-2009 12:00 AM

Uh, as in to premix? You don't use Seafoam as a premix, it's a cleaner not a lubricant.

CarAndDriver 12-04-2009 02:56 AM

Yeah you need to specify as a cleaner or premix. Also depends on what Lucas product you're talking about Lucas makes different things for the different functions.

Again, do not use Seafoam as a Premix. Lucas UCL and Seafoam are nothing alike.

Grungepup 12-04-2009 10:39 AM

yeah seafoam is the same thing as the ZOOM ZOOM can that mazda uses to decarb the engine

Myardor 12-04-2009 12:26 PM

Lucas upper clylinder lub vs seafoam

Lucas ucb>>>the complete fuel treatment, injector cleaner, fuel conditioners, neutralizes poor quality fuels, carbon remover, , lubs,

Seafoam>>motor treatment, cleans injectors, cleans carb jets, fuel stabilizer, carbon cleaner, upper cylinder lub,

So seem like they are the same to me ...or am i missing something?

CarAndDriver 12-04-2009 02:00 PM

Yeah, you're not really comparing the right products for how they are used on here in our 8s.

Seafoam Motor Treatment is used one-off for a de-carbon engine cleaner for those that need it. Lucas UCL is added regularly to gas for cylinder lubrication and some carbon cleaning.

Seafoam would only be used when you needed it. Lucas UCL would be put in the gas everytime you fill up. Other similar products people use is Fuel Power Plus/+ or Marvel Mystery Oil/MMO.

There is a stickie in the Tech Garage forum on Gas/Oil Premix. I recommend it highly. Also search for "Seafoam" in that forum and you'll pull up lots of threads.

I'm not an expert like many others on here so I hope I got it roughly right.

I believe seafoam is a much stronger chemical than the premix additives such as Lucas. Hence it's role as a de-carbing agent. For example, you wouldn't use the Lucas UCL in replacement of seafoam when you are seafoaming a car.

seafoam improved the performance of my boat in one treatment for sure !! ( twin inboards v8 ) I have not used it in my 8

Yeah, but that's a single treatment (as is the proper use of seafoam).

CarAndDriver 12-04-2009 07:09 PM

^ Concur. Seafoam, from the many posts on here, is a one-time and not regular use item.

Have you ever poured out seafoam or compared it to Lucas UCL? Seafoam is like water when cold, how good of a lubricant could it be when hot? Lucas is a lubricant first and everything else second.

Grungepup 12-05-2009 11:46 AM

if you need a boost or injector cleaner.... use a can of BG44k every 10k miles, it seems to keep the carbon away

~what the others said.

I would use seafoam as a one time clean than use the lucas product as a premix.
Overuse seafoam and it is comparable to running a marathon with wet, sand filled swimming shorts. not good.
Seafoam is best used when your car is noticably clogged up. I don't use it in my 8. (haven't needed it)

OUCH:eek:

I use Lucas UCL in every tank.

9krpmrx8 12-05-2009 11:05 PM

Me too and FYI, Northern Tool has the 32oz UCL for $8.50.
