I was backing out of a street parking space and because I'm used to a narrower car I skimmed the curb :banghead:. I slightly scratched the tire. Its barely noticeable but I'm still pissed.

Is there anything I can do to "repair" the scratch?

Scratched the tire??? Or the rim. Going with "rim," search the forum for "curb rash." There are some threads on that. Fixes can range from ghetto through professional. There's a great thread in a BMW forum, linked in one of the threads here, with a rather complete DIY.

I have some curb rash too, now I have a question. They're painting the rim in this DIY, what color would the Mazda rims be? without having to paint the whole set. Also i plan on taking it off the car if I decide to do this and painting it either in my basement work room, or outside and putting it in the shed to dry

From what I've read, Sunlight Silver (plus clearcoat) seems to be close enough to be unnoticeable.

Man, I did the same thing. I'm kinda glad I have a spare rim/tire in my trunk, that way if I ever get TOO sick of looking at it. It's hardly noticeable, thank god.

One of the posts citing the Toyota color describes a "poor man's" fix. Just clean the rash, sand it with fine sandpaper, and paint.

I curbed a wheel a few weeks ago. Gouges were on the lip, and were pretty much radial. I cleaned the area, then sanded with #400 wetordry across the gouges. Not enough to take them all the way down; just enough to get the sharp edges off and reduce the depth a tad. Then four coats of the Toyota Duplicolor paint, brushing parallel to the gouges to fill to the bottom. Sanded between coats. After a week I polished lightly with white compound and waxed.

Not perfect, but quality is about 10-0. I need to look, and know where to look, to see it.

Thanks for digging that up and reposting! For some topics searching will often make for some very discombobulated reading.

My car is Sunlight Silver and it's just not even close to the wheel's silver color.

My recommendation is just scratch the whole thing. All my rims are scratched all the way around from curbs. Don't make any difference once it's all flat.

Epilog to my curb rash story is that some time later I ran over some debris and bent that wheel. (What are the odds of damaging a scratched wheel rather than one of the good ones?) Had it professionally fixed at Wheel Worx for $150. Looks like new. The fixed the rash by welding in new material, machining it to the original contour, then painting.

No problem, i've got some minor to moderate curb rash I want to fix and was wondering this too, I didn't realize it was as easy as it seems, at least an at home DIY seems rather easy. Seeming like it only requires some bondo, paint, and time. Granted it won't be as good, but I should at least have some bondo laying around from working on my sister's car after she decided to rip the fender off her celica.
