I'd buy one, but damn they are cheap!

renesis it doesnt get anymore JDM than that ;)

StealthTL 04-07-2009 04:53 PM

If you REALLY want to puke, check out the price of a nice Eunos Cosmo, with the turbo 20B.....

Alexb 04-07-2009 04:57 PM

Damn! Ya i figured it was foreign when it said 2003. But think how cool you'd look driving a right-hand car. but I'd imagine shipping makes it almost not worth it?

Grungepup 04-07-2009 04:57 PM

Oh thats right... they are cheap because of the milage tax that japan has.... if the car has over a certain amount of miles, the owner has to pay an ungodly amount in taxes.

$6,000 holy christ http://www.tradecarview.com/used_car...eunos%20cosmo/

I costs about 2,000 to ship it!

alnielsen 04-07-2009 05:24 PM

What work has to be done to the car to allow it to be licensed?

c0ldf1ame 04-07-2009 05:57 PM

its not crash tested, so probably be a pain to get it over here, at least in cali i dont know about other states, or you can get a kitcar license for it but u'd hafta get it in parts and assemble it after, correct me if im wrong, this is just what i heard v. RHD cars

Renesis07 04-07-2009 06:03 PM

Ive heard rumors that in japan you have to have your motor replaced like every 30K miles for emission purposes, any truth to that?

dynamho 04-07-2009 06:26 PM

From what I observed, cars in Japan are ridiculously cheap in general, particularly the domestic cars. I think Japanese frown on used items, especially cars. Probably has something to do with social status. Value drops like a rock once a car is driven off the lot.

Ross_Dawg 04-07-2009 06:42 PM

you can get skyline's for dirt cheap but GTR's still cost a pretty penny even over there ;)

newguy 04-07-2009 06:45 PM

There are a couple of ways to get it into the US, the best and easiest way to get one into the US is to find a private company who has done the US crash tests to import it for you (upwards of 25k to have it imported but you could drive it legally the second it hits US soil). And yes it really does cost like 25k to bring one here because I was seriously looking into it for a while and found a company that did all of the crash testing.

A second way is to become a registered importer, pretty much just prove that you have a large enough garage to house several vehicles,. This is a specific registration process though the government that I cannot remember as of right now how to go about doing it but it costs a few hundred dollars (whether you receive the license or not). What this does is allow you to bring the car over to the US and get a license for show or something like that but not to where you can drive it on the roads regularly.

(I'll use a GTR for this one) Another way to do is to have one shipped over here without registering it and to go to the junk yard and but a nissan 240 and switch out the VIN numbers between the two vehicles (this is NOT legal by any means) but it will allow you to register the vehicle as a highly modified 240 and let you drive it regularly on the roads.

That took way to long to type lol:lol:

PSTNLSS 04-07-2009 07:55 PM

Why can't we just drive it from Russia into Alaska. I mean Sarah Palin can see russia

If the $ didn't suck so bad, it would be even cheaper lol.
