Rx8 Year differences

I have been looking all around for model differences and it seems like its not exactly talked about, but my question is to post what years had which engine and what varies from year to year.

ex. 2003 standard

2004 - difference....
2005 - difference....

When I was looking around at S2000's I found that a guy posted models like 2001 to 2002 had no changes and 2003 had stiffer suspension and a glass rear window then 2004 had the larger engine. Just an example of what kind of information I'm looking for.

I sat in a 2008 40th edition yesterday and I loved it, I'm a little taller then the average person so finding that conferable seat position was a little time taking but I loved it. Much thanks in soon replays, I may have additional questions as the thread continues also.

Nate

2004 - 1st year, just try to avoid if financially able
2005 - not much change, bug worked out?
2006 - screens installed? ( no need to custom install racing beat screens)
2007-2008, err i have no clue, but i doubt much change that you can't change yourself.

engine is not changing untill 09 comes out, which is just that additional oil injectors put in.

The reason it’s not talked about is there are no significant engine differences on the 6-Speed RX-8 from 2003-2008. The A/T model received a few more HP with a new trans and the 6-port motor last year. But unless you think a revised crank case vent is a big deal not much has changed specs wise. Other ‘big’ changes have been the A/C condenser screen in 05, color changes like no more yellow’s after 04, adding white in 05 and the Shinka model which is really just a trim option. If your question was about trim levels and not engine specs the info on Mazda’ site still applies for the prior years.

you know, i don't think this forum has a FAQ that catalogs year-to-year changes (yes even for trims and colors) for the RX-8 from 2004-2008

someone should get on it!

You need to buy one of these to hook up an ipod to your rx8. AUX port comes standard on the 2009 model though.

(note: that url above was just the first google search result, i have no idea if that is a good price)

04s are the cheepest by far and hardly any changes except the keyless ignition.. yes that is sweet. there is also a new oil metering system in he 08 or 09 i believe that has an electric version of the oil pump ... personally when my motor goes I am atleast gettign that engine as a replacement. the 04 has all the bugs worked out if you get all teh tsps and other service things done. the M flash i think it was is the current one.

For a car with no big changes ... Id say save the money and get an 04 or an 09 in the fall.

Is the keyless ignition only for the automatic?

So do you have to leave it in neutral for the remote start to work?

It's not a remote start. It's not even a button start. It's just a keyless start.
you still have to turn the ignition yourself. You just don't need to insert a key to do it.
There's a plastic dummy **** in the ignition to allow for you to turn it.

yeah but all the yearly model threads are all separate from each other and buried deep in the archives, there's no single *stickied* thread that can be easily found by new users to get a good idea on year-to-year changes on each model year.

the responses we have so far in this thread is a perfect example why we need such thread; all the answers are bits and pieces and doesn't really help a prospective buyer.

hmm maybe I'll go dig up your old threads and put them into a single thread in the FAQ section...

Thanks I get it now, my friend has Renault like that. It makes it easy to forget where or who has the key though.

Now my question is, and this may be more relevant, what year did they actually put a 6 cd changer in. I have the '04 GT, but it is only a single cd

The sticky should also note the differences between the U.S. and Canadian models (especially since they often get traded across the border), such as no TPMS on Canadian models, but we get headlight washers.

Most likely I will only create a FAQ thread for SOLELY the US market

It's more preferable to have a fellow Canadian member to create the Canadian FAQ, as you guys will be far more 'in the know' about the minor details than us, and vice versa.
