RX8 vs. S2000

Has anyone here driven both? I know this is an 8 forum... I was wondering what those of you who have spent seat time in an S2000 think of it compared to an 8.

I had been toying with the idea of getting an RX8 after a recent test drive. I loved the light weight - the tossability - and how fun it was to blast through corners in. The lack of low end torque dind't bother me...b/c i was too busy winding it up to 9k... ;)

I had originally thought of an RX8 b/c the back seats would give it some everyday practicality..... but I have two kids and one on the way...so there's no way that even with an RX8 I could fit the *whole* family in it... me and wife in front, two kids in back..the "on the way" baby would have to go in the trunk... which won't work.. :) I have a large family vehicle for routine family trips.... and I have a second 4 door sedan with a large trunk large backseat...so we have the "main" family car...and a second vehicle that *can* fit everyone in a pinch...if the main car was in teh shop or broke down, got a flat, etc...we have backup transportation...

so while I had been thinking of getting an RX8 to replace teh second car/sedan...I"m starting to think it migth make more sense to just get a third car for fun. if i do that...the backseats become less important as the car will most be a weekend toy.

i still like the look and feel of the RX8. but an S2000 is similar spec wise. it's a bit lighter, has a tad more hp, but the obvious differences. rotary vs pistons...hard top vs. convertible... i like the rotary motor..but i also like the top down driving experience...

if you wanted one of these two cars strictly for weekend canyon carving - which would you pick? my gut tells me the S2000 probably has a higher performance envelope..and that the RX8 would provide 90% of the fun factor of the S2000...maybe 95%.... but with the added practicality of back seats...

but i've never driven an S2000.... oh darn..another fun car to go test drive.. :)

Take one for a test drive and decide for yourself. I dove an S2000 and felt it was very small and compact, more than my 8.

you can not go wrong with any of those cars. s2k is bit agressive on the suppension vs the 8 suppension. but both are fun cars . one thing you might have to get use to for the 2k is the engine noise, but once you get pass that stage your set. hope that helps.

ps put on the flame shield, because i see a storm brewing.

for weekend canyon carving i'd pick the s2000. if i didnt need backseats an s2000 would be my first choice

I think if you're not going to use an RX-8 daily (seems better as a daily driver than weekend car)......then i would go for an S2000. Only live once right? All things considered does insurance rates matter to you? If so, RX-8 seems to have lower insurance than an s2000. Anyways IMO, i feel the S2000 suspension is a bit tighter and harsher than a stock RX-8. Otherwise go out and drive both, only you can decide in your mind and heart which one tugs at you more.

At least he's not asking "rx8 vs. 350z." But yeah, you'll be flamed-big-time for this...

On the upper right hand side of the screen is a search botton. You can go to the advanced search menu and put in key words or just surf thread and sub-forums next time you have a question. The problem with your quesiton it that it is vague and has been asked many, many times before. Anytime it's x car vs. y car--it all boils down to what you want. Then we can help you by telling you what these cars are and are not. It's your money, your life, and your time. You just have to figure out what it is you are looking for in a car purchase.

+1. That is a "win-win" decision. All depends you your needs/tastes. Both are high revving, easy handling, and quick. Just depends if you want to be quick with the top-dropped or quick with back seats?

Don't worry about it.

I'd pick the RX-8, but that's because I hate convertibles.

dont worry about it,

weekend fun car? s2000 all the way... significantly faster (when launched properly they are almost as fast as 350Z), better handling, honda reliability, better resale, open top, more sportier suspension and feel. they are just so unpractical, but that shouldn't be an issue since its just a weekend car. otherwise rx8 has it beat in a lot of areas such as ride comfort, room, etc.

since abid has linked to the mostr pertinent threads ill just close this before it heads any furthur towards bbqtown
