Mazda is known for their rotary engine I think they will keep it for a damn long time

Is that a good thing or bad thing ?

I mean seriously. Tons of dumbasses out there still thinks that rotary will self-destruct every 5 miles or something.

Renesis07 12-13-2008 09:29 AM

yea, theyll never abandon the rotary, theyll prob do the 16x in the next RX

I dont think the RX8 will ever really be a super expensive car. Maybe in 50-60 years, yea, but I dont think anytime soon.

haha, thats so true. A lot of people I meet say that shit

"oh god, that thing has one of them rotaries, have alot of problems?"

"70,000 miles! Im surprised its still running, better trade it in!"

"238 horsepower, thats it, I thought they had twin turbos?"

I could go on forever if need be.....

ZoomZoomH 12-13-2008 09:58 AM

why would you want a ford taurus? ugh. :ugh2:

Ford Mondeo, not Taurus. The 3 is half a Ford Focus anyway.

The RX8 is definitely not the car get to get new if you hate depreciation. Makes a great car to get used.

Bingo. With the engine being the heart of your driving experience, the average person will find too many pro's in favor of the competition. It will come down to profitability for Mazda in the end; it always does. That will be the key to its survival......NA has to go away.

Flashwing 12-14-2008 04:47 AM

Rotary 4 life...

You lose tons of cash in any trade in deal. I would suggest a lease but it seems that even those are expensive these days.

When my RX8 no longer functions as my daily driver it will be garaged, babied and spanked on the track on a regular basis.

Razz1 12-14-2008 12:07 PM

All cars are worth crap right now.

User24 12-14-2008 02:52 PM

Everyone predicted these events for rx8 years ago.

They knew all the "exclusivity", "cool factor" would be going away once all the youngest drivers got onboard.

Well they are onboard now.

Razz1 12-14-2008 02:54 PM

And now we will soon have riced out 8's with spinners, park benches and HKS intakes

So you have seen my car.....

cmr333 12-14-2008 03:38 PM

yeah i have seen alot more 8's on the road now with what i would say are more everyday drivers than driving enthusiast , this is mainly because of how cheap you can get one now. Sad they probably have no idea what they have bought.

Design1stCode2nd 12-15-2008 12:37 PM

I knew depreciation going in would be bad like I knew about the flooding issue, low torque, etc. I figured I’d have the car for 4-5 years at a minimum. Well of course I should know myself better than that.

Like any relationship the things you gloss over when you first start begin to annoy you after a while. I have to leave it running and manually lock the car when I drop off my son at school since it hasn’t warmed up yet, I can’t carry anything in it (duh), my parents can’t fit, changing summer and winter tires, doing the hokie pokie in a tight parking spot to get anyone out of the back, not being able to out run a VW Jetta, etc. All minor things and things I was fine with when buying but after you live with it for a while just kinda suck.

I’ll most likely have the 8 now for at least 2-3 more years although if I could get $17-18k for it in the next two weeks I’d sell. MSRP was $34k and change.

rjo007 12-16-2008 05:00 PM

Yes the market is down,

How ever, I paid 18K for my 05-8 sport model and drove it for a year. Traded it for a 40th, new, and paid 10k plus my 05, the sticker was 34k. Can not beat that price, carmax offered me 11K. You have to love the 8.

So does the trunk open up backwards to reveal the park bench as a 3rd-row rumble seat?

Kane 12-16-2008 05:51 PM

Hells yeah...

actually the trunk reveals my fire extinguisher (with a big NOZZZ sticker)....... been there; done that.

Marklar 12-16-2008 06:02 PM

Look on the bright side.

If 8s had good resale value, then you would have had to pay more for it in the first place. The 8 is a steal for the price they go for. That's good going in and not so good going out. Meh. Kinda works out.

dfweyer 12-18-2008 04:04 PM

It is good if you're in the market for an 8 with a few years and miles on it. Probably gonna keep mine for a while longer

Renesis07 12-18-2008 04:34 PM

The 8 is a niche car; always has been, always will be.

Niche Cars = poor resale / high value to the enthusiast.

Our cars will never be worth what we feel they are worth because we appreciate them for reasons that the common eye does not see.

mmats69 12-22-2008 11:35 AM

lots of really good replies in this thread. it should be put to the top

I couldn't have said it better myself! The rotary is ours...poor MPH, torque-lacking, VW dust eating and all. The RX-8 is cool in its own right. That's all there is to it.
