RX8 took off road for a few weeks, will she be ok?
Hi everybody in this forum! Im glad i've stumbled across this site dedicated to all rx8 owners that know what their talking about!
Basically i was going to sell my rx8 but instead decided to keep it but take it off road for about 6 weeks due to inusrance issues. It's parked safely out the way but my main concern is..will my beloved rotary be ok stood still for that long? Or will she need taking out 'to blow off some steam' and keep the engine from sezing? Plus will brakes be ok? Any views or opinions will be helpful as Im ok with cars but when it comes to mechanical issues, i really havent got a clue. |

I hibernated my RX-8 during the winter for over 3 months. Cranked right up when I started it and drove just fine. I do it every winter.
-Put the 8 on jack stands (preferably with wheels off) and release the e-brake. If you can't put it on jack stands, over inflate the tires a bit to prevent major flat spotted, put wheel chocks on at least two wheels, and release the hand brake. If the rx8 is sitting outdoors, wrap the brakes or wheels with a bag to prevent rust. -Make you have have at least half a tank of gas, preferably with some sort of preservative. - Have all fluids filled. - Unplug your battery and have it sit indoors. - If you have rodents in your area, I suggest stuffing steel wool into your exhaust tips and intake hole. Of course, before you do all this. Take it for a good drive and wash it. |

When the op says off road for a few weeks, I thought maybe you were talking about 'off-roading.' I was about to tell you to get a jeep.

Let it sit for 3 weeks. On the third week start it up and let her run for 15 or 20 minutes. Rev it up a few times. Move it forward or back half a tire rotation.
You could always throw a cover over her if you're worried about the elements. For a 6 week sit (which is not that long) anything more then that is bordering on overkill. I had a fellow 8 owner leave his car in my driveway for almost 2 years (long story). For the first year I would this... after that it just sat till he came and got it. In that first year it started first time every time and would idle like a champ. |
