Wow, rofl... track record lap and 20b. I am recording this!

Marklar 01-28-2010 06:31 PM

Hell yes! Didn't SpeedSource #70 set the lap record last year, or was that a different track?

Eat yer heart out, Porsche!

Gr8Bullet 01-28-2010 06:31 PM

Dont know about that but today the #70 had the pole for a while, here is a quote from Tremblay.

Sylvain Tremblay led GT with a lap of 1:50.009 (116.499 mph) in the No. 70 SpeedSource/Castrol Syntec Mazda RX-8. "I've won a few poles here before and I know what it takes," Tremblay said. "My prediction is that a Mazda will be on the pole."

Doo Doo Doo Doo - Doo Doo Doo Doo ( Twilight Zone Theme) :Freak_ani

He has won here many times, the last being Jan. 2008. Wish I was there now. You know that they are not going to run at Laguna Seca as they have in the past? That sucks. Would have liked to get a posse together and drive up to Monterey. Salt Lake City is going to be the closest to SoCal this year, just sucks.

Kick Ass Roto's:ylsuper:

tmak26b 01-28-2010 08:25 PM

Your RX-8 is also not anywhere close to the one they are using on the track....

JinDesu 01-28-2010 08:34 PM

^Not sure if anyone said theirs were o.O

Are you serious? Their not :crying: OMG!!

Thank you for stating the obvious. The point is a Rotary powered (20b 3 Rotor) race car (Tube frame,etc...) kicked ass in qualifying.

Vlaze 01-29-2010 08:46 AM

Course our cars are not the same power wise nor set up for racing (most of us). Regardless, it's the aspect of handling that the 8 portrays which isn't other than better coil overs and tires that much different from what they're running. Handling is what gives you the better track times which is exactly why we love to relate and see 8's up front at races like this.

I'm surprised at how many 8's are in that picture, wicked.

JinDesu 01-29-2010 09:11 AM

Well, that car is preeeetty stripped out. And I'm sure with the budget that these race groups are working with, they can get their handling sorted the way they want it to.

I'm more interested in the 20b competing with the rest.

Those rx8's have a tube framed chassis and share VERY LITTLE resemblance to an actual RX8.

Razz1 01-29-2010 11:15 AM

Excellant.

Are there always that many running the 24hr race? I counted 7 in that pic and I've never seen that many but maybe I just didn't see them in years past.

JinDesu 01-29-2010 12:19 PM

Wooo! 2010 RX-8 as the pace car? It'll be pretty nice, for sure!

No, there were 4 8s in the field last year. There were going to be 5, but the yellow one (forget the team) couldn't pull together the funding. Still not here this year.

The corvette team from last year (Nonnamaker) bought Speedsource's 8s from last year and Speedsource built new ones. Dempsey added an 8 to his team as the 7th.

It's gonna be a good year for the little car co.

JinDesu 01-30-2010 01:00 PM

It appears I can only record in VHS, and my parents are apt to change the channels when they get home

Does anyone have dvd recording? It'd be great if someone could record it and put it online :D

rubberduckie 01-30-2010 01:44 PM

Watching the preview right now on speed TV, and they are doing a small focus on each of the GT cars (camaro, porsche, BMW, Mazda) and they were talking about how the race is a big auditory experience. All 4 of the above cars drove by, mazda being the last and my mother from the other room out of no where says that the last car sounds like mine. Made me smile at least.

RIWWP 01-30-2010 01:52 PM

Yeah. I loved that part. Notice how only the Mazda guys smile during their interviews like they are having fun.

Dempsey looks and acts like a little kid ... so awesome.
