http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...21&q=rx8&hl=en

i googled some videos on RX8s and watched this one. a lot of the cars this guy takes out on the track are POS's... but near the end he also takes out an NSX.

anyone know who this is? is his car stock or is it majorly modded?

either his car is sick fast, he's an amazing driver, or both....

great driving in an 8!!!

HPDEs are a whole different ballgame. The range of driver skill is huge, and for all we know the guy in the NSX has some all seasons on his car. Seeing a slower car pass a faster car, even if the faster car is supposed to handle better, is quite normal during an HPDE.

Yeah, I have seen that video also. If your on Google video, search on Trackaddict Rx8, you'll find a bunch.
I believe that is Trackaddict himself (aka TA) driving before he became an instructor. Hangs out in the SE forum.
Swoope, You know who he is - Olddragger's friend that had the other clogged fuel pump.
And he is a very nice guy to meet, btw.

According to the blurb on the video they were doing red flag training. Suspect the other guys were not actually racing.

Also the guy seemed to be driving well within the cars limit. He didnt change gear very often and not once did I see the TC light come on. If you pushing hard then that thing should be flashing like a glitter ball in a 70's disco :)

At 12:50 of the vid, you can see the corner worker in turn 10 waving a red flag - thus the cars STOP. That is a red flag drill.

TC light doesn't flash when it is turned off. And you can't see any lights on the dash anyway.

He passes people and looks smooth doing it, cause he is good.

TA usually drives with DSC disabled, and yes, he is a very competent, very quick driver, who knows how to hustle the 8 around a track. his car is mildly modified, at the time of most of those videos. IMO, he gets everything out of the car, and then gets in the passenger seat, and teaches others how to drive better.

and swoope, yea, turn 12, after going under the bridge, the first few times, it feels like you are going to drive off the face of the earth. But once you get used to trusting that the road is still there, it is not as scary.

if only it were the same. I have never played Forza though, how good is that game. I don't see myself running out and buying an XBOX, just curious.

Forza is awesome, track elevations and dimensions are all close to exact so it can be a good training tool for learning a track.

That vid was pretty early in my track experience days. In HPDE the car ability often far exceeds the driver ability so it is not uncommon for high powered cars to be passed by lesser ones. Hence my aparent pwning of the track that day.
I havn't done many videos lately due to the hectic pace when instructing 2 students and driving my own sessions as well but if you look at the road atlanta videos from 2006 you can see a bit of a different scenario and faster speeds.

well, NASA will be back at RA in August, if you can, you should make the trek, it is an awesome track, and we always manage to have a good time while we are there.
