buddy, get a grip ! Jesus! He has the manual, I have driven it !
Have you????? !!! It is not "quite a bit faster" I guess your now going to tell me even though this is a good friend of mine, that has the manual, I must be dreaming that to. Man this board is hilarious sometimes. You can experience it first hand, and know the person well, yet there are some yahoos on here that still try to tell you, you were wrong. Once again, he has the 2003 Manual !!
And down low he would take me, but what I found is because of the broad power band in the 8, his car seems to peek out sooner. Sorry if the facts are hard for you to accecpt

I don't understand how you can get a accurate HP number from trap speeds.

It seems to me that gearing will have a HUGE effect on trap speeds, regardless of HP. Making a blanket statement that given trapspeed and weight, that you can calculate the actual HP is just BS.

I count 5 exclamation points in your post, buddy; I think you're the one that needs to get a grip. I've no interest in getting into a pissing contest over what amounts to a trival issue and it's clear you're not interested in anything remotely resembling a rational conversation about it, so I'll let it drop.

This is your cue to reply and get the last shot in, should your ego require it. May I suggest a cynical remark about how non-owners can't possibly know anything about these cars? I don't think that one has been used enough.

I don't give a rats ass if my rx8 is 238hp, or 210,, 170 to wheels or 185. The fact is, it's got plenty of power, handles very well, looks amazing, and is more fun to drive then just about any car out there right now. We all know this car in it's stock form is not able to show full potential of what this renesis motor can do, as with many cars. Everyone is too focused on numbers, when in reality they mean very little. You can argue this subject with any new car out there, because there is simply no way to to figure out whp from base hp. If you are into hp and torque numbers, take your car on a dyno, get your results, and use them., That's the real Hp of this car and any car. What manufacturer claims as hp is hogwash on any car. Just drive and enjoy. :)

I believe it is torque & gearing rather than horses that determine the trap speed (with the exception of drastic differences). I've never had a problem running with any car on the interstate as long as I drop it to 3rd for the pull, and in these cases I double clutch so there is no braking.

Oh, I LOVE this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Torque is just a function of the power and rpms at which that power peaks. Look at the formula one car more than 800hp and only something around 250 lb-ft of torque... ok and a quarter mile time around 6.5 sek

Astor 02-25-2004 02:47 PM

I was referring to cars with similar horsepower & weight, if you can get to maximum speed faster with torque, you go that speed for a longer period of time. Whereas with less torque, you reach your top speed later, thus in a race (since this seems to be based on 1/4 mile times) would have less top speed time, or the top speed you would reach in a 1/4 mile.

Astor 02-25-2004 02:50 PM

Of course in the higher horse power cars you would want lower torque or more weight due to the lack of traction you would have just trying to push in the gas.

I seem to remember a Japanese magazine complaining how it's difficult to dyno modern sport cars. They were dynoing a GT-R and couldn't get the AWD and ECU system to cooperate, so then had to pull some fuse and do other junk.... Then of course the dyno came back around 284WHP. So I guess it's not the same as the RX-8 dyno issue we are having here.

Butt Dyno 02-26-2004 03:48 PM

Why can't someone put the car on a Dynapack, or other 4 wheel dyno? Maybe there's something I'm missing...

Something missing? The horsepower, maybe?

somebody is fat-fingering somebody is fat-fingering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I thought "Ike" is a person of detail, you know like getting the facts straight and the details involved with that>?

Skyline Maniac 02-27-2004 05:02 PM

Actually.... if memory serve correctly, the RX-8 is only faster than the Miata in recent Best Motoring videos.
