RX8 Rookie...
 

Hello Everyone...

Long time lurker, first time poster :D

I have been admiring the RX8 since it first showed up in car magazines and articles. When it first came out, I really liked it and I finally had the chance to test drive one. I was so impressed with the car, from the interior space of a "small" car to the driving aspects and how it handles.

This was the first car that I actually felt "a part of" while driving. Never in my life did I have that feeling. The problem is affording one. I'd have to sell two cars just to get one :(

After reading about flooding problems and such, I'm hoping to spring for the 2005 model in hopes that the issue has been addressed. Also, the rumors of more hp is also a good one too. Whether it's worth the wait or not, I'm hoping that it'll be my time to own one like the rest of you guys here.

In the mean time, please don't be too upset if I begin to drool :D

the only thing i have to say about the flooding issue is that as long as you warm the car up every time (drive it for at least 5 minutes) it will never flood...hey look at that an excuse to go on a drive, i always look for them now with this car :)

havent heard of flooding probs where i live hehe. but yet, if ya willing to wait, the 05 should have some improvements

dont worry about flooding.. 1000 miles and no flooding yet and its covered under the warranty at least at my dealer

From what I've read the flooding issue should be greatly reduced by the "M" level revision of the firmware, available as an update for all vehicles and standard on new production. Don't think you need to wait for 2005 on this account.

I have 6700 miles on my car, and the method I've avoided flooding is as follows:

Insert key
Turn key
Drive at least until temp gauge is above "C" before shutoff

Sounds a lot like driving a non-rotary, huh? I think the flooding issue is a little overblown and probably scares off a lot of people. If that's a concern to you, I wouldn't waste any time on it. Get an '05 and we'll heartily welcome you aboard!

The longest 6 months of my life was the time between pre-ordering my RX-8, and delivery last July.

The trick here is to convince the wife that I "NEED" this car. I have a '95 Camaro Z28 that she absolutely hates...but I love cause it was my first car that I had bought. But after driving the RX8, I never had a car that made me feel a 'part of it' and I would like to sell the car to get a '05 RX8....but we'll see how that goes.

I have a baby on the way and she'll need a SUV. I told her there will not be a minivan (just in case I have to drive one...might as well look good driving the SUV). So, slowly but surely, I'm working on it.

I just joined the board today. I to have been looking at the RX-8 since it was introduced in canada. Problem is I was in school!

So now i'm out of school, and am ready to buy the RX-8 . I can buy it now, but I can wait till '05 models as well.

I can't seem to find any articles stating what the differences (if there are any articles) between the '04 and the '05.

If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great :) I can't wait to buy one!!!! Thanks again

Blue_Chameleon dont worry about flooding IT SEEMS TO ME this is a greater issue for automatic drivers why i have no clue
liek VRRocket said its not really that hard to avoid flooding just dont valet ur car just give the car couple mins of ur life before shutting down.
Flooding has been an issue for all rotary engines, if it was that easy to address it wud have been done already. I do feel there is a lil more pressure on Mazda to correct it, but in the meanwhile dont let it stop you.

mrjynx if u search around ull find some rumors of the differences all i can remember is the possibility of dropiong the yellow for a white.

I'd wait till 2005. They prob work out a lot of bugs with that model, and thats something Mazda prob wouldn't tell you (the consumer)

I say wait until the 05's are out and then buy an 04 while all the dealers are having clearance sales. I've had no problems with my 04 (manufactured in August 03, purchased Dec 31st with 2 miles on the clock, now with 11000 miles)...
