rx8 problems??

i have a 04 rx8 MT, it has 42000 miles on it :) . the car starts fine but even with i let it warm up when i start going sometimes the rpms drop and it doesn't want to go, it acts like it wants to die.. this happens almost everytime. it runs just fine afterwards though.. i usually let it warm up about 5 min and i live in texas where its not cold.. SO should i let it warm up longer? also another thing is when i burnout or get sideways around turns the TCS and ABS light comes on!! it does it sometimes?? i really don't know nothing about rotary engins so i don't know if this is normal..

If you drive it too hard when the coolant is cold..the PCM puts it in "limp mode" It is trying to protect itself from dumb driving until it is up to temperature

Drive it carefully untill it is warm and you will be OK.

Try and drive it like a moron when it's cold and the car won't like it

Your "Traction Control Light" would come on when your peeling out or going sideways because of loss of traction. Hitting the DSC button will turn off traction control. and then you can play. Or you can Hold it in for 7 second and have all the traction control systems shut down.

It's amazing how the traction control system and automatic stability control will -actually- activate and ... work ... when you are trying to do burnouts or drifting.

/sarcasm

Wow it's amazing how many dumb rx8 owners there are out there

P.S.: I feel "dumb" is a huge understatement...

Its only going to get worse as our cars depreciate and become more readily available to just about anyone.

drasticRx8 Dec 29, 2008 11:55 AM

thanks for the sarcasim... but i know that the TCS will turn on when i try to do burnouts but like i said the ABS light will also come on and i can't turn off traction control unless i turn off the car for a while.. i know i have to turn off TCS to burnout but even with it off sometimes the ABS and TCS lights come on.. and I don't run my car hard when its cold... its when ever im first getting out the drive way.. just barly start going it acts like it wants to die.. its amazing how some dumb people "ross Dawg" don't understand questions..

04RX8man Dec 29, 2008 04:47 PM

the ABS is Linked to the Traction control unit! When you burn out it's recognizing that ur losing tractino but also that u have ur brake to the floor(if you're power braking etc) so it's trying to slow down the wheels to get traction also not lock up with the ABS

drasticRx8 Dec 30, 2008 11:03 AM

i dont power brake it.. but even when i hit the DCS button so i can play around.. if i play around too long the ABS and TCS will come on!!

fastlaneracing Dec 30, 2008 11:16 AM

Pull DSC Button for 7 seconds and its totally off.

my guess is you just suck at driving a MT and the car is about to stall when you try to start moving. Hold down the DSC button for 7 sec, and all traction contol will be off. Keep doing "burnouts" often, that way your motor will blow and you will go buy something else kthksbye

Renesis07 Dec 30, 2008 12:25 PM

I do lots of burnouts and my motor and trans is fine :)

You should recommend something else for him to kill the car

dannobre Dec 30, 2008 12:33 PM

I think he should reverse his plug wires.....that should do it....fast and noisy death :)

Renesis07 Dec 30, 2008 12:35 PM

Remove the rev limiter and put a brick on the gas pedal. Whether you choose to leave it in gear or in neutral is up to you?

ATL-GP Dec 30, 2008 12:37 PM

Drastic....is it still doing that?? I would suggest you take it in and have them run a compression test and make sure you have the latest flash.

otakurx Dec 30, 2008 01:01 PM

Lets not be too rough on the guy.

Yes you need to let the needle on the temp gauge get about 1/3 up before you start to hammer on the car or you can cause damage. Patients is a virtue that can save you money and grief as well as keep you from being flamed.

Do not shut this off..

You will get into a accident.

drasticRx8 Dec 31, 2008 11:01 AM

Thaks for all the info guys. i didn't know about holding the DCS butten for 7 seconds so thats prob it. "ATL GP" i think your right about running a comprression test on it to get the latest flash because i know its not my driving MT.. and it only does it when im first driving off after letting it warm up.

madmark10 Jan 1, 2009 05:45 PM

im a friend of drasticrx8, what his problem is when he lets his car warm up he is having to let it warm up atleast 5 minutes or the car feels like it dont want to drive period. is this a fairely common problem with rotary? my cobalt when you start it up it goes, i let it warm up but it goes reguardless.

Renesis07 Jan 1, 2009 06:04 PM

no thats not normal, it could be a variety of issues. Coils, plugs, wires, cat, failing engine are a few of my guesses.

madmark10 Jan 1, 2009 06:38 PM

well the car only has 43k miles on the motor. i am a automotive tech but have never worked on a rotary engine so i wouldnt really know what could be the problem

04RX8man Jan 1, 2009 06:38 PM

sounds like limp mode

agreed.

I would check in this order:

Plugs/ Coils / Wires.

Cat Converter.

Compression Test.

One of three should give you an answer. Ive had to do #1 and 2 twice already and Im at 72,XXX miles.
