Rx8 Ocd

I don't know about y'all, but I'm obsessed with this car. It's been well over a year since I bought it, and I haven't gotten any better. I still check for dings and scratches, I still park away from other cars (I still refuse to enter parking lots with tight spaces), I still agonize, and I mean agonize about every little detail... So when something bad happens, like getting rear-ended twice in less than six months, well you can imagine what comes over me.

My car is at the body shop right now, getting insurance-covered repair to the rear bumper and rear driver's side quarter panel. I wanted a full bumper replacement like they did the last time i was butt-rammed, but since they deemed it repairable, they're going to fill the dent and re-paint it. Will it be as good as a new bumper? Will it be the same as it was? Huh? huh? huh? Will I ever be free of the my RX8 OCD?

This isn't my first hot ride, either. A few years back, I owned a fully restored 1970 Chevy Malibu, modified with a 454 Edlebrock, custom carb, exhaust, and suspension with a gigantic sway bar. Yeah, I know I jumped pretty far from the muscle car world, but that was a long time ago... the thing of it is, I can't remember agonizing half as much about my muscle car! And this thing was a real head-turner, a black beauty with gold SS stripes and clear coat!!!!! What is it about the RX8? ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!

Cool little sportscars, especially rotaries, are more dear to the heart. It's hard to drive anything else after owning the 8. It's so small and lusty. I can"t help but posses it. Go ahead call me a fanboy. We all seem to love this car. I'll probably keep it forever. I'm spoiled by it.

Mazda calls it "Zoom-Zoom"! Never really understood what Mazda meant by "Zoom Zoom" until I got into this thing! I never use to join any forums, never went on track, never met people who were active in the internet forums and I was drawn to this site just so I can see the passion (hoping most) have on the RX8. Bottling up happy emotions is not good at all (that silly smile you put on while eating dinner)... you have to let it out somehow with people who "understands"!. I'm going to give my car a cuddle... cya!

I bought my first car in 1973 for $300 - a '65 Pontiac Tempest. Since then I've owned a Duster, Spitfire, Sapporo, Celica, a motorcycle and now the RX-8. I was never so in love with a vehicle like I am the 8.

Sounds like you've had some bad luck. I'm curious as to where this seems to happen, highway etc.? I try to keep a good distance from the car in front of me. It helps me control my stopping distance and speed which in turn helps me control the stopping distance/speed of the car following me. Plus, it reduces the amount of road debris hitting the nose of my car.

Is your Rx8 Silver?

I have the same problem as you. We have been in a relationship for just over a year now and I thought it would cool off a bit but nope! Still wash her like I just got it, still agonize over every detail(noticible scratch, going to body shop.) A year ago I told myself that I would not still be this obsessive but I proved myself wrong. For me I think it's the mods. When I add a new mod, it's like the car is new again. That one new piece seems to make the whole car new. So, I figure, once I stop modding (if ever) I'll lose the obsession, and be used to the car....if that is possible.

yeah, man. I've had a few mis-haps (none of which my fault). The first time I got rammed in the rear was in slow moving street traffic. The car in front of me just couldn't make up his mind whether to pass the bus pulling out into traffic at the right, so I did the conservative thing for a change and slowed down behind him instead of racing around...and BAM! '92 tercel behind me rams me pretty hard. When I stepped out and saw his little car crushed like a tin can, i expected the worst, but he just bounced off me with suprisingly minimal damage to my rear bumper (textured part damaged, so replaced...good as new). That was a few months ago.

Week before last, I'm coming down a decline on the freeway, pretty much bumper to bumper traffic, moving real slow. All of a sudden I feel a semi-hard bump scrape in the rear, and then I see this crappy-ass ford pickup casually making his way past me on my left as if nothing happened. I thought it strange that he traveled a good distance between lanes to get in front of me. I was enraged. "is that how you f@@kin' change lanes?" I finally get over to the shoulder, and in addition to myself and the truck, I see a Cadillac STS and a brand new Infinit G35 both badly mangled (I got the least of it). Turns out this pickup lost its brakes on the decline and pinballed first off the Caddy, then the Infiniti, then finally me to slow himself down. Can you believe that? Needless to say, when the dude in the Caddy discovered the driver of the truck had neither insurance nor license, he became enraged and called the cops immediately. They showed up and swarmed on the dude. I'm not exactly happy about the damage to my car, but better he was discovered by hitting my 8 than a woman with a baby stroller crossing the street.

a silver curse?

you're kidding me.

I don't know, I've surfed around here a little and found some really, really foul things that happened to black ones.

nycgps 10-30-2006 01:17 PM

Most of the accidents happened on this forum are Silver Rx8.

So yes, you've been cursed !

astro 10-30-2006 10:17 PM

In some cultures, RED is a "lucky" colour. If I were you, put something "red" inside the car or just wear red undies. :dunno:

I own a black one, and get challenged to street races all the time
therefore, black=streetraces
Silver=crashes
