RX8 hit while at dealer!!!

Today I was at the dealer getting my brakes and rotors changed because they keep making noises, when I noticed a green 8 getting work done too. So I found the owner and we starting talking about our 8's. He was in there getting his front plate put on the grill correctly. They told him they would wash his car and then bring it back to him. We were by the outside of the garage watching the cars get washed and worked on. My car was up on the lifts while his was getting washed. The guy finished washing his car and started backing up it towards us to get out of the garage. Well, I guess the guy in his 8 didnt notice the car on the right side of the lane in the garage and slamed side by side into a Avalon. Both of us were like what the hell just happened. How do you not see a big *** Avalon when backing up. Well it messed up his right back panel and his back rim. The Avalon had way more damage then the 8! Thats surprised me! What a mess, but atleast my brakes are done and dont make anymore noise. His car will be fixed on Monday.

That is horrible. At least he didn't do it himself.

I heard from a friend that works at my dealer that a RX8 customer rolled his new 8 on the night he pick it up! Was on the freeway and at speed so the car was totaled. Don't know how it happened or ifthe guy driving was hurt. My friend just saw it on a flate bed at the dealer.

What a way to break in his 8. What a shame.

The owner took it better than I would have. The manager was kissing big a$$ after he found out what happened!

Here's the reason I now own an RX-8, the story follows, I think washing cars is bad luck lol.

My 1997 black Monte Carlo is no longer. I took such good care of it, it was completely paid for, and now it's completely wrecked.
Yesterday I went to the car wash, thinking I would get it nice and clean after the rain last week. It went through the car wash uneventfully and was being wiped down by hand. I was sitting in the waiting area watching this, along with a host of others waiting for their own cars. I then watch the employee get in my car to move it forward, which he does at a gradual pace initially. He then punches the gas and turn towards the road, whilst a truck is coming down that road. He proceeded to broadside the truck, which, literally, hit hard enough to drive his truck sideways, and then spun my car so that the back quarterpanel smashed into the truck as well. Having done that, most people would have found the brake and brought the car under control, but not this guy, he was special! He then proceeded away from the accident, which I could only think meant that he was running. It was almost surreal watching this whole thing because it is extremely rare that one gets to see their own car crash from afar. Anywho, the guy has the accelerator pegged and is swerved down the street, and he then proceeds to jump the curb and run the car into a retaining wall. He later said that the car was out of control so he did that for safety's sake. Huh? Working at the car wash, he spoke no English whatsoever and was beyond my Spanish fluency, so I really couldn’t understand what he tried to say had happened until a Spanish speaking officer showed up. He blamed it on my water bottle, saying that my water bottle got stuck up behind the pedals and caused the gas to stick. This literally defies the laws of physics, which I was more than happy to explain to the officers responding to the call. That being said, there was no need to put his foot on the gas in the first place, being that he said he was trying to move to car forward 15 feet. Anywho, he only had a driver's license in Mexico, so he was cited for "Driving without a license," "and Failure to control speed."
I guess this guarantees that I will now be looking for a new car, as there was extensive damage to three sides of the car. I can't imagine that the insurance company for the car wash will try to fix it, in light of the age of the vehicle and it's residual value. Cars depreciate like wildfire! The manager of the car wash said that they will treat the accident as if it occurred on their property, being that it was one of their employees, and will get me a rental car today, in lieu of the insurance adjustment. The best case scenario is that they give me the full Blue Book value for the car and I use that for down payment on a new one. What further sucks is that Old Boy Gabe just had a bunch of things fixed on the car, so all of that was a wash as well.

My sympathies.
I had my beautiful 8 for exactly 12 days when I was struck by a unlicensed, uninsured (most likely) illegal alien migrant farm worker. He was making a ill-advised left turn out of a parking lot. Ran right into my front side panel at 15-20 MPH. ouch. My 8's been at the body shop for ...... 3weeks and counting now. Anyhow, I wanted to tell you that you should get your full blue book value and the cost of any recent repairs, and the cost of a rental car - this will all be covered under the business insurance for sure - unless of course the car wash owner isn't going to report it - having a unlicensed driver on his payroll is not going to help his insurance rates one bit. So either way you should be pressing to get as much as you can out of this to compensate you for the loss. If the owner doesn't report it and pays out of pocket, he should be even more willing to compensate you fairly, because you could always get your insurance company inviolved if you were unhappy- which would complicate his life greatly.
good luck, though a new 8 is a much nicer car to drive than the monte!
