RX8 Engine Flooding

I just spent over $900 because my "Engine flooded due to slow cranking." It seems the RX8 needs the right battery in order to prevent this from happening. Who knew? Keep a close check on your battery my RX8 friends. Anyone else had this issue with their RX8?

What did you spend $900 on?

Battery is not the main issue for flooding...Turning off the car cold, ignition components, starter, or other engine issues such as busted coolant seals are more correlated with flooding.

War eagle:)

I second that, and the War Eagle!

Why did your friend charge you $900 to pull start you?

Read forum, then spend money. Not the other way around.
Hope the 900 included fresh ignition coils or you might be spending more soon.

News flash!!

Someone on the RX-8 forum got ripped off after he/she did something they shouldn't have done, and needed a "professional" to clear up their mistake, who then charged them too much for part(s) that don't actually solve the real problem with the car.

Film at 10.

BC.

really? 2 seconds of searching would bring up hundreds of posts about how flooding is a common problem if you aren't careful. 900 is ridiculously steep for pulling out the fuel pump fuse and cranking it over until it defloods, then putting in a new battery and starting it up.

This happened to me just a few weeks ago due to an old battery and cold winter temps. Except i only spent 125 and 10 minutes of time swapping out the battery. Everyone always goes into panic mode when the engine floods but it's such an easy rememdy and you're back on your way.

@ Bama,

Been there. If the $900 did not include plugs and coils, change them as soon as practical. Clean the ESS and MAF as well. Check the $100 thread in my signature for other tips. I had multiple near-flood experiences. And finally a flood experience. When I cleaned up the ignition and charged the battery and got it running I was happy. The next day when it was cold I tried to flood it. Method was start it, run for 15 seconds, shut down, drink a little beer, repeat. I got bored after beer ran out after about 10 cycles. It stank and smoked, but it started within a few seconds every time.

Man. This thread is old and after owning my 06 RX8 for a few years now I've learned what an idiot I was. Fortunately Mazda recalled engines because of this issue and my girl has a new, albeit rebuilt engine and the problem is no more. Thanks for all the responses. Yes. Even the grueling sarcastic responses.
