Rx8 Car Covers
 

Just got my rx8 over the weekend. Unfortunatley I don't have a garage, so I'm interested to know where I could get a decent cover. I"d like something specifically made for the rx8 as it'll fit the best. Your feedback is much appreciated.

yeah, i saw that but was hoping to find something a little bit cheaper. if that's all there is, then i'll suck it up and buy it. is this price better than the dealers?

is $169.96 w/free shipping made from Noah fabric. Weathershield is $240. Evolution is $145.

I have had covers made of Noah and Evolution (Techalon) and much prefer Noah. The Covercraft covers are top quality and really are custom fit. My S2000 cover ever has a little pocket for the stubby rubber antenna :D

You might be able to find a little better price than AutoBarn if you hunt around, but I have ordered from them many times with good results. If you get on their mailing lists they have special promos all the time as well - for further savings.

Will those provide ultimate protection for outdoor use? As I stated, I don't have a garage so I'll be using this 5+ days a week (depending on the weather). Thanks so much for all your help.

Yes. The Noah does not fold or roll up small, you probably would not want to try to carry it with you (stash it inside the house). Using a cover means you have to keep your car clean, get a California Car Duster for the outside since even a little dust on the finish = sandpaper-like action putting the cover on and off. If your car is wet or really dirty then don't use the cover at all until it is clean and dry.

The Evolution covers I tried broke down in a couple of years and started leaving "dust" on the car when removed. In my case this was blue dust, do I replaced it with a Noah cover and no problems.

Sounds like the OEM cover is similar to the expensive Weathershield cover. I have not tried one (based on the price), but it costs more so it MUST be better - right :D ?

Also, I was able to get a 2 car carport put up for $700 or so. I still use covers, but that keeps a lot of crud off of those 2 cars - covers on or off.

If you are daily driving your 8, I don't think I would bother with a cover. Since by following the "rules" (only clean and dry) there are going to be tons of days you can't use it.

yeah, i'll be driving it everyday (weather permitting). i thought the rx8 cover from the dealership seemed like a rip for the cost. i've heard good things about the noah and evolution. that's a really good point about keeping the car clean to avoid dust scratches.

You will get REALLY TIRED of taking the cover off and on (ask me how I know) every day. With today's paint formulations just about no sun fade any more. Keep your car clean and apply a good wax 2-3 times a year and forget about the cover. Now if you live in acid rain HQ or leave you car out in AZ or TX (where it would bake the interior) a cover might do some good, but I think you will get tired of it quick.

I always cover the S - since I don't drive it every day, unless it is dirty or wet. A couple of cats in the 'hood may use it for a scratching post if I don't. The daily driver I only cover if it is clean (just washed) and I don't expect to be driving it for a few days.

Don't even fool with a "one size fits none" cover, they are not worth anything, are hard to put on, and will not stay on (again, ask me how I know).

Try doing a search. I remember two other 8 owners selling their car covers here on the forum also.
That's how I found mine.

Buy the OEM car cover from the dealership...its worth it. Just bought another one for my 09 R3

as for the OEM cover: I have one and it is a great cover BUT....(unless they redesigned it), it is a VER VERY TIGHT fitting cover. (I have appearance pkg and MS wing)

I bought their noah cover and LOVE it.

Agreed....and I had to put it on the car (which was not clean BTW) for the recent snow storm. I hope I didn't scratch the paint.

Oh snap. I only had the OEM spoiler and I thought it was too tight.

that was my reaction....but it's better than having my car taking a hit from the salt being thrown by the salt trucks.

for a daily driver, I find using a sun shade in the front window does wonders to keep the car cool and protect the interior from uv. a car cover, on a daily basis, would drive me nuts. there are round, collapsing sun-shades that fold up small and don't look like a pos folded cardboard box in the window when deployed.

just a thought.

Mazda has a sunshade for the 8 that fits the front perfectly and says RX8 on it. That is the way to go, trust me.

I use my cover every day, takes about a minute to put on. :)

Has anyone ever had trouble with the OEM cover melting, or having adverse effects when you put it on over the tailpipes when they're still hot? I've been leaving it off of them for a while because I don't want to burn holes in my cover, but it would look better to throw it over them. Anyone?

I live in DTLA and in the heart of distribution hell. Any recommendations on the 380 vs Noah? I've noticed the driver side of my car has started to oxidize pretty badly. I want to get the best value for my money but not drop a ton of it either.
