RX8 Back after 32 days

Well after 32 days in the shop they finally finished things up and got a new engine installed in my RX8. Everything seems good to go!.I spoke with the guy that did the installation and he said most service calls are for flooded engines because people keep shutting it down cold!. Mines was the first engine replacement.

This shows how most of the guys that work there have no idea about the flooding issue!

So... any guesses as to when Mazda will actually admit there is a problem with the engine design? Or at least realize they have some faulty parts.

Personally i dont think its a 'problem', wasnt the rotary engine known to flood before?. I dont think theyll admit to this issue until they come up with a solution, if they ever do. As far as my problem with the coolant leak goes, is it widespread? if so, theres a problem!

I wasn't reffering to the flooding, that';s just one of the quirks of a rotary. However the coolant leak seems to be common enough that Mazda needs to do something about it. Some months ago it was reported that Mazda ran out of the 70 extra engines that were in North America and now it seems they might still be having problems keeping up with demand. I'm guessing it took 32 days for the engine because it had to be shipped from Japan, but correct me if I'm wrong.

14 days to ship it from Japan, 16 days to install+2 more days to switch out another part that was causing a malfunction.

If it gives me anymore problems i will be sure to use the lemon law next time around.

A few were poorly manufactured, the vast majority were fine. That's just the nature of the beast, especially for a newly redesigned engine that they haven't built anything the likes of on a mass scale for about 7 years. I'm guessing it probably has more to do with the QA than the design. That should improve over time as the people doing the QA become more familiar with the engine and the functional specifications for performing the QA get better..

We are all buying this car with the full knowledge that it is not going to be a Civic in terms of reliability. That said, if when I get mine my engine is bunk I'll probably be really sore and not as forgiving as I sound now.
