RX8 Alarms/install

What do you guys think the best alarm is for my 04 RX8. I didn't get any keyless entry remote or anything with my car. just a single key. And I was wondering how hard they would be to put in. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but I've never done it? It's a MT but I don't want the remote start so I won't have to worry about that. I saw some on EBAY with an LCD Remote for like 60 bucks are those good or what do you suggest? Thanks alot

All RX8s come with a basic security system and a remote unlock mechanism. I believe, the 2004s came with a regular key and a separate FOB that has the door/trunk unlock/lock buttons. So if you want the Mazda one, go find a dealer that will sell you one at a reasonable price and have them program it to unlock your doors and trunk.

Additionally, Mazda also sells a shock sensor that you can install yourself (DIY threads) for around $50 online.

If you want aftermarket, I have no clue.

No, not all of the RX8s came with basic security system.
I have 04 Grand Touring. I left car with windows open... (locked).
after awhile i went back and see how loud my security system was.. so i reached inside from outside and unlock the door, nothing went off.
I was like wtf. I tried everything. but no alarm went off.
I thought it has a problem so i took it to mazda. (under warranty)
the service guy printed out my car info (with the VIN). He said my car doesnt have security system. It was an "OPTION".

Yea... I know for sure some of 04 GT does not have perimeter security setup. It was an option. Just info here.

and thanks, I found DIY thread about it.
I am gonna check it out.

viper alarms are the best, got one in my 8 for the fact i always leave the windows down and the sun roof popped, you can set them so that if people get so close to the car, not even touching, the thing goes off. got my from a friend who had it on his jeep and sold the jeep

Doesn't sound right to me, but maybe someone else can chime in.

According to this: alarm is standard.

Im a fan of Compustar. Can be a little pricey, but I like the two-way remote system.

Which model do you have? How senstive is it?

Hightshoe 04-04-2007 08:24 AM

I had the Compustar 2WSSR in my last car, I don't have an alarm on my 8. It does support manual transmissions so I could use it, but I don't have anything worth stealing in my 8 as of yet. It was really nice though. The range was a little over a mile so you could be quite far away from your car and still have it notify you of someone setting it off. If you're not familiar with a two-way system, it's pretty slick. Every time you push a button on the remote, whether its to arm the alarm, start the car, or if the alarm goes off. It relays that to the remote which then notifies you of the status (whether the warnings going off, the actual alarm is going off, or if your car started or not).

Oh, and just like any other alarm. It can be set to as sensitive as you'd like.
