yeah just look at MOST of the threads on this forum

tubingchamp 03-11-2009 09:25 AM

Not to threadcrap, but they are right.

All I can say is that I love my rotary and every mod I've put in it is personal preference.

Forgive everyone, because we see a post like yours 2-5 times a day by random trolls or new members, and when you've been here a couple years, it's not as fun to answer them.

What is it that makes someone a Honda/Acura fanatic?

I can understand rotary fanatics, Corvette fanatics, Porsche fanatics, etc. But Honda/Acura? Next thing you know there'll be Ford Taurus fanatics.

On the best mods: Tubingchamp has it right. It's personal. I love my mods (modest though they may be) but there are probably short people who never use toll roads who think I wasted my efforts.

...ummmmm I joke you not, there are some folks that would sell their first born for one of those Taurus' with the Yamaha engine :Eyecrazy:

Rootski 03-11-2009 12:33 PM

Look. I'm guessing you're the kind of guy who thinks a white Integra must be what God's own sperm looks like. By mods, I'm guessing you mean you want to throw on an intake and a fart can, maybe spending $500 at most, and get 30 horsepower. Sorry, not going to happen with an RX8, so don't be disappointed. Or by mods you mean big wings and neons.

Shinka_MJR 03-11-2009 12:35 PM

Sounds like someone might be breaking out of his ricebowl... best recommendation i can give you: Do NOT get an RX8 and then mod it like you would / have already done your honda. Spare the car the embarassment and get something like an STi, Cobalt or another honda... a riced out RX8 deserves an immediate death by fire.

ndhoffma 03-11-2009 12:58 PM

What a warm welcome for the new guy....

Anywho, Id say mos are a personal preference as well, as few will give a lot of power or huge improvement.. the car is more or less race ready. There are a lot of threads on the car you'll want to read in the tech section if you don't know a lot about the car; there is a lot to learn if you arnt familiar to rotaries.

ATL-GP 03-12-2009 07:05 AM

I would suggest you go drive one, if you haven't already. As far as mods for this car, most are rather pricey, as the car is set up pretty well from the factory. Most people go with the intake and exhaust for starters. Later on in the car's life, as the clutch begins to wear out, they go with a lightweight flywheel and upgraded clutch...some go with suspension, etc. This car requires you to pay attention to it's service requirements, so as parts begin to wear out, go for the upgrades. Basically, you need to enjoy the car for what it is, and as you become more familiar with the cars limits, then go for upgrades. More likely than not, you won't really be able to exploit the full potential of the car in stock form as soon as you get it. So to immediately mod the hell out of the car from day one seems pointless, in my opinion.

common cents sense... not everyone can afford it.

Well, I tried to find his name on other Acura/Honda forums, nothing. I was wanting to see what kind of mentality he had on those forums to see if he deserved an 8. Apparently he uses a different name.

Worth a shot.

If you look after it. It will look after you.

alienRX8 03-12-2009 04:45 PM

if you want something fast, dont buy it

if you want something that looks and handles good then buy it

His post count is still at 1. It looks like we've scared him off.

Not sure if that's something to be proud of or ashamed of. :uhh:

I think there are a lot of young, seemingly intolerant people here who must feel a need to bolster their own sense of whatever. On the other hand, there's a lot of extremely knowledgable people here too. I can understand that there are Honda fans. Honda's a great company. I think they make more engines than any other company in the world. My wife loves her Honda Pilot for what it is. And I love my Miata and RX-8 for what they are. Takes all kinds. But Honda also makes some sporty cars, eg, s2k, NSX.

I came from the same boat. have been into hondas and acuras for quite some time. Honestly it could be faster but when it comes to a handling/braking contest. this car freaking rocks. Seriously, I had quite a few suspension mods on my last integra (lowerd, front and rear sway bars, strut bars etc.) and this thing made that car feel like a loose pile of garbage. people would always go for a ride or drive the integra and compliment, man it handles great, its so awesome.. to me it handled like my moms avalanche haha

pastacura_05 03-23-2009 07:31 PM

Thanks for all your input i am in the process of trading in my 05 rsx type s for a rx8

kersh4w 03-23-2009 07:42 PM

consider the gas mileage we get. can you afford 18mpg highway, 14mpg city on premium?

consider that for a loooooong time.

shazy 03-23-2009 07:48 PM

Ok, well it's an rsx type s, but remember it's RWD. Mean Right Wheel drive :)
But seriously don't mod the crap out of this car and if you do just spare it (some people have already gone to that stage). Most N/A mods are either for sound or just preference. An intake with an exhaust and a midpipe will give you a grand total of

12whp~ max.

If you are going from a honda/acura to an rx-8 I would suggest you have a decent bit of money that you are willing to put down for the maintence. Please do not let the price of a used rx-8 fool you into thinking this will be a cheap car to run like a civic. It simply is not. Unlike Honda, which generally can run forever if you just perform regular oil changes when you are supposed to, the rx-8 requires ALOT more maintenence. If you are a previous civic owner, prepare yourself for a world of hurt. The rx-8 requires you to have a decent understanding of how rotaries work, otherwise your car will not last very long. First off, you should know that rotaries eat oil due to how the engine works. You will have to top the oil off roughly every 2 fill ups. You must also try and redline the car every week or so to rid of the carbon that builds up in the engine and to use up the excess amounts of oil that builds up. As far as modding goes, there aren't many mods that will provide you witha reliable engine afterwards. On top of voiding the warranty which in my opinion just isn't worth it with this car.

I have not commented on how I like this car because I obviously LOVE rx-8's as I'm sure every other member of this forum does. I would suggest you try and research some reviews of the vehicle so you can get a response with less bias.

bee_afraid 03-23-2009 09:05 PM

A couple of my previous vehicles. I've had quite a few honda's over the years but these were the only pics I could find atm. I miss my old honda's but the RX8 is just as much fun and having a warranty is great.

We love honda's so much that we ended up picking up my wife a pilot to use as a driver.

One thing you won't get about a rotary from reading about it is how fun it is.

Seriously, forget torque and MPG numbers, forget power-to-weight ratio, just test drive an 8 and get on on a clear freeway on-ramp and stomp on it in 2nd until redline, then shift to third and back off when your balls start to shrink.

Forget the 0-60 times, just experience the sound and feel of a rotary under WOT at redline and see if it moves your soul.
