hahah and with the 8... you get more friends (rx8 members! meets are awesome!) and girls
insurance not that bad.. the part that gets very annoying is.. GAS! i get gas every 3days
consider gas.. seriously.. for the most part in my opinion this car is head turner to the max. and when i got the 8 i knew nothing about the car.. just that the car is stunning
think about it!

Yeah, that gas bill must be a real strain on mommy's bank account. I bet she can barely afford to buy you that new M3.

kersh4w 11-04-2007 01:40 PM

you guys are all like hyenas. rofl. i think the majority are just jealous they didnt get a sports car when they were young and all the hot girls were dating the guys with fast cars in high school. and so they bitch about, wahwahwahawah. cry me a river.

i almost want to bait all of you guys. start a new account, "hey guys, im 15 and 8 months, i'll get my learners soon so i wanted to know if i should get the rx8 or the m3? which one takes to turbocharging better? my daddy said if i dont have an accident in the first 6 months i can turbo it."

rofl.

its one thing to say, "the dynamics of a rwd can be tricky" and "just about everyone crashes their first car." but its an entirely other thing to say, "OMFG I JUST HATE NOOBS THAT HAD MORE MONEY THAN ME WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL!! I HATE RICH PEOPLE!!" because now you're just trolling.

16, and a new RX8

Well atleast don't burn off the tires. I (yes I bought it) bought my first car at 16 and it was a 1995 Camaro Z28....um....let's just say I went through tires like I did gas. I somehow made it through highschool, and sold it and bought an RX8 at 19(current age). It's not as fast or sound like that of a V8, but I love my RX8, it handles like a dream, and it has AC. But 16 and a RX8, get something bigger. You an your girlfriends will have alot of problems negotiating within this car...

KDL323 11-04-2007 02:04 PM

im 16, dont have an 8, but picking one up this week.
and im pretty lucky cause most of my fam. lives next to me so i can always use their cars if i need a bigger car. other than that, get the 8, just be careful and make wise decisions. respect the car, it'll respect you.

Cattywampus 11-04-2007 02:16 PM

Please go buy something else. You're 16 and everyone, including you, knows you are going to go out and try and race the car and get embarrassed because you don't know how to drive the rotary yet. I know you are going tp say you do but trust me you don't. Get a lesser of a vehicle first. Save your money, learn how to properly drive a vehicle, then in a few years go back and buy a new RX-8. Get defensive driving lessons or go to an autocross school. It will be your best bet. Also, I said learn to drive the rotary because anyone dumbass can drive this car but not every one knows how to drive a rotary. Go learn first, have fun and stay here to learn all about the car first.

dont forget to respect the other drivers on the road...and not to mention pedestrians

KDL323 11-04-2007 03:17 PM

well that one should be common sense, but thanks from bringing it up "Rems31"
and if you want to figure out the limits of the car, take it to the track or something.

ws6transam 11-04-2007 06:31 PM

i never drove and rx8 but im asumeing the put about 290-300 hp to the wheels(which would be faster than a mustang gt) stock. that isnt to much power for him as long as he is somewhat responible. im barley 17 and just bought myself (i work alot) a 2000 ws6 trans, the car makes 375 rwhp and is a 6 speed. ive had it for about 2 months no tickets and never pulled over. this wasnt my first car though, i did have a slow car to start with. as long as the kid doesnt think he is a bad ass because he has a rx8 he will be fine. i say get it but thats alot of money for a first car.

chetrickerman 11-04-2007 06:47 PM

well, the 8 doesnt put 300 hp to the wheels. try 170-180 stock, but our car is a lot lighter than your ws6

hahah she is affording it just fine
i may be younger but gives you no right to say shit like that
theres a reason im living my life like this? we spend the way we do? and we can afford what we want? thats our lifestyle so why you saying she can barely afford to buy the new M3 .. quit your bitching

ws6transam 11-04-2007 06:53 PM

kind of an unrelated question but how much does an rx8 weigh, and what is an average stock quarter mile time?

wow rootski, chillout man, its not a crime to have ur family be rich and buy you shit, if you bought your car yourself and shit thats good too, for us well, we got our families to back it up.

besides, if they cant afford to buy leon an M3, then ofcourse she can afford the insurance and the gas, if they didn't think of these things in the beginning, they wouldn't be rich

right?

OOOOH, sorry if I hit anyone's sore spot

chetrickerman 11-04-2007 07:02 PM

leon, chill, but ws6, the 8 weights from 2960 to 3100 depending on which model you have, the stock 1/4 mile times are low 15s to mid 14s

ocrapitzleon 11-04-2007 07:05 PM

haha i am always chill
only got me aggravated with those kind of comments

ws6transam 11-04-2007 07:18 PM

thanks for answering my questions my uncle just bought and rx8 and i wanted to learn some more about it

chetrickerman 11-04-2007 07:50 PM

yea leon, you will learn when to take people on here seriously and not, and above all, dont take anything on here personal, just laugh it off, trust me, i had to go to anger management when i was 6!

razorride 11-05-2007 08:36 AM

just to give you an idea... i am new to the 8's but I was in a similar bot as you... I m 25 years old now and turning 26 on the 9th... getting old... but anyways... I have been in love with cars since I was able to talk... my favorite toys were hot wheels.. whole nine yards... the problem I find is that younger generations want to look good and go fast no matter what the true outcome may be.... when I was 16 my first car was an 87 toyota camry with 12K miles on it inherited from my loving great aunt :) ... this was a starting point... even though this car wasnt the best looking or fastest car on the block... i appreciate starting out in that... I am just going to assume that you are not personally purchasing this vehicle and that your parents/parent is going to be paying for the insurance and car.... if you start out in an rx8 which is a nice car it can do one of 2 things to you... first it can get you into trouble... i.e. speeding tickets or wreck... bc i don't care what anyone says in here and I dont care if you are 16 and own a car... no young adult has enough self control not to get stupid in a vehicle like this... it will happen and you may not get into this sort of trouble the first or second or even third time you push that envelope... who knows you may be the luckiest kid alive but something will eventually happen... I will say it is mature that you posted these concerns on this forum prior to the point of purchase but trust me that inner kid will come out... Like I said I am only 25 and I am also a tactical driving instructor and my inner kid still comes out... The second thing that may happen is tat you are starting out in a higher end sports car for a kid... This will make you hit what I like to call the spoiled factor... this can cause flack in school... trust me I was there... I went to a small school in tennessee here and I was one of the first to introduce the import scene with my at the time new honda civic turbo with custom paint and wheel and body kit... It was an attention getter which I thought was what I wanted but it drew attention in the wrong way... Ok well I will end on this note... make yourself and whoever is paying for this car really happy and start out in something sporty and fun and that suits your needs... I recomend not the 8... you will appreciate a shiny new sports car much more after you have fully grasped driving... im kinda with saynotopistons when he said get a civic si... great cars to start in and fun to drive too.... look into something along those lines... maybe an acura rsx or integra too.... fun cars... front wheel drive... handle good... easy to mod if you want too with well priced parts in abundance.... plus you will save money in gas, insurance, parts, etc... more money to enjoy your childhood years... im sure if someone else is purchasing this car for you they would be happy to throw you some extra cash for a trip after you remind them how much money you saved them :) good luck either way and fully weigh your options!
oh and just to double post... my family had plenty of money to spoil the sh** outta me when I was growing up... thats why after my first car I haven't had to sit in anything under $20k stock plus mods :) I just wanted to give you an honest opinion on what I believe is a good and bad idea... and after re-reading some of the comments left I have to get this off my chest :)
1st: ws6... although your car has big horsepower and you are young... you stated youve only had your vehicle 2 months with no tickets or wrecks yet so you are responsible lol... not trying to flame you man but come on... 2 MONTHS? come back to this post in 2 years
2nd: leon... you dont have to defend yourself... just be safe and enjoy your 8 man... and yes modding it is addictive... which is why in my previous post I mentioned something less exspensive to mod than an 8 lol... but more power to you
3rd: police34... good idea on the defensive driving or autocross classes... as a driving instructor myself... I would suggest anyone no matter what age go throug a protective/ evasive driving course or a vehicle dynamics class... great ways to learn... but on the same aspect... don't fool yourself into thinking that the clutch on that rotary and any other car is different... they all drive the same with same controls for everday use... there are 2/3 pedals a steering wheel... signal controls... and a mt or at gearbox... dont say that he can drive a non rotary but not a rotary.... theres not enough of a difference in that engine than any other... one again not trying to flame... but this kid wants real info obviously and no one is giving him real life info
Once again good luck in your decision man... and have fun with whatever vehicle you decide on... make sure to learn the ins and outs of any vehicle to fully enjoy it

kennychopra17 11-05-2007 09:58 AM

You can get the 8...and I am sure that you are one of the "mature ones". I remember when I was 16, and was often intimidated to race with the local high boys and often caved in. It is a great car and will treat you fine if you treat it with respect. Another thing you have to consider beside the maturity level is, and the insurance premium, can you afford the upkeep of this car?? Good luck with whatver you decide to do and in the future. You just asking these questions shows you are already ahead of the curve - ken

Maybe your parents should have bought you some books to go along with those hot wheels. There are things called paragraphs and punctuations other than "..." :lol2:

The Drunk IT Guy 11-05-2007 10:17 AM

When I was in HS there was this girl, and she had enormous breasts.. Her first car was an equally enormous yellow 78 Lincoln Continental.. Every evening it took her at least 5 minutes to get it started. Then one day the horn started blaring by itself. Everyone throughout our school could hear it in class. People tried to open the hood but it wouldn't release, so it blared for about 5 hours.

Perfect car for a 16yo..hah

chetrickerman 11-05-2007 10:18 AM

why didnt you help her, maybe she would have shown you her tits

Raptor75 11-05-2007 10:30 AM

Works for Paris Hilton.

By the way I never knew how badly our school systems were letting us down, I'll definitely be voting for the next funding increase.

I have to say I applaud a 16 year old for even asking the questions.. Most would say yeah this is what I want, and get it. You have been given some sound advice on this board. Whether or not you adhere to it is up to you, but I will agree with those that have stated that an rx8 is not the best car for you at your age. I'm 43, and have driven everything from serious 400 HP old muscle to the new GT mustangs, Supra's, BMW 3 series, and at times I still find an 8 a challenge.. I see it from two perspectives, safety as well as financing. 1. You just don't have the skills to react to the handling capabilities that the 8 has to offer. It's not just horsepower that you have to worry about, and there are only so many "nannies" that can help you out in a tight spot. 2. Any car is an investment in your future, whether you have 100 invested or 30K. Eventually it will become transportation to-from work/school, and it's much easier to replace parts in an older car, or replace an entire car if the need arises, in something else. With that said my advise is as most of this boards, find something with a little less worries. Find an older Honda, or Toyota, learn the basics of maintenance, handling, dealing with traffic and all the other as*hole drivers that are out there, and once you gain the skills......treat yourself to a new car...and if you want an 8, when you graduate high school or college.....they will still be out there.

I guess the ":lol2:" at the end of the post went way over your head. There's no "ignorance". Im not really saying you need English writing lessons. You need to relax...just good natured ribbing :-P

P.S. Arrogance on this forum will take you nowhere. And congratulations on how much you make...cuz you know how money = success. You wanna let the forum know how big your penis is too?!?!

Well, in my house you would'nt be getting this car at 16. In my house, my 16yr old daughter knows that she has to pay for her own 1st car, and the insurance, and the gas. So off to work she goes. Same for my 14yr old son. Same rules applied to my 21yr old.

Im sure when YOU wreck it, Mom and Dad will find someone else to blame and sue.

Mike

oh and just to double post... my family had plenty of money to spoil the sh** outta me when I was growing up... thats why after my first car I haven't had to sit in anything under $20k stock plus mods :) I just wanted to give you an honest opinion on what I believe is a good and bad idea... and after re-reading some of the comments left I have to get this off my chest :)
1st: ws6... although your car has big horsepower and you are young... you stated youve only had your vehicle 2 months with no tickets or wrecks yet so you are responsible lol... not trying to flame you man but come on... 2 MONTHS? come back to this post in 2 years
2nd: leon... you dont have to defend yourself... just be safe and enjoy your 8 man... and yes modding it is addictive... which is why in my previous post I mentioned something less exspensive to mod than an 8 lol... but more power to you
3rd: police34... good idea on the defensive driving or autocross classes... as a driving instructor myself...

People tried to open the hood but it wouldn't release, so it blared for about 5 hours.

Perfect car for a 16yo..hah

Wow...I thought this flashback was going somewhere...

Word of advice for the future...unless the breasts are involved later, leave the miscellaneous information out of the story...seriously...

well rems lol... i didnt get a 4.0 bc a sh**ty class called calculus 205... and for some reason the university of tennessee found it necessary for me to take that class do to my placement tests ugh... as for the $100k a year... thats what I say... but in all kidding aside $85 a year in this area is pretty damn good especially since im only 25... but sorry for not seeing the little smiley there... i think i just wanted a reason to let some steam off... been kinda hectic at work getting this training facility off the ground... if anyone is wondering what i do for any reason feel free to check out or company's website... it's not much righ now but like i said we have several contracts going right now so we are swamped... its http://echotatech.com .... but yeah.. rems thats my reasoning behind those and sorry for jumping down your throat... just wanted to give the kid some ideas and my opinion and sometimes when i start typing i can get carried away with my words so it ends up being fairly long... therefor i dont waste time with proper punctuation and all that format crap
As for the 16yo kid that did actually read my info... the scion tc would be a first car bc of the toyota manufacturing... try to get a used one though... because i dont know what its like where you live but trade in value on those cars arent doing so hot bc everyone is trading theirs in... so get a used one and save yourself the pain of being what im sure some people in this forum are... "upside down" on your first vehicle... you need to invest wisely bc its hard to trade in a car these days and get anything for it... youll see what i mean when you go to get your second car... but good luck and welcome to the roads man... be careful tuning is an exspensive hobby and it is more addictive than crack to some :)

well if you wouldve read my original post... you wouldve realized that my parents are wealthy... so the going to school and "incurring debt" part is not accurate... My school was paid for in full prior to every semester... and the only job you could possibly do and make more than that a year is either sales... or something illegal... or your own business... which in that case someone fronted you money so you are in fact much more in debt than my school wouldve been lol...and i hate sales guys bc they are for the most part ignorant pr**ks... but more power to you man congrats... while you were out busting your chops working... i was going to keggars, football games, and other events... enjoying some of the best years of my life... man you are right though... im a sucker for that :rollingla ... my SALARY is just fine with me... plus im doin something FUN... i teach people how to drive in all sorts of scenarios... i get to shoot cars with paintball guns and airsoft weapons on a daily basis... man i am such a sucker lol... ok im done. have a good day sir :)

Well its a good thing your parents were wealthy...you know...so its easier to not have to earn your way thru life and all...

Also goes to show you how much, or I should say little you know...you do not have to be in sales or do anything illegal...you just have to work for the right people, doing the right thing at the right time...something that "hard work" usually produces eventually...but yet again probably something you know nothing about.

I've been enjoying the best of life buddy...college isnt the only place where you party...but again, due to your narrow view of reality...not something you would know anything about...

Your lack of reality makes you a sucker...calling people "sir" and pretending your better than others makes you a dolt...

Some ditzy 16 year old girl came out to look at the car with her dad and when she told me she didn't drive stick I told them thanks for coming and asked them to leave.

Ended up selling it to a 50's year old grandma who rode a Ninja ZX6R a few years ago!

ok i promise im done after this lol... sorry for this gettin completely off of the subject for the young man looking to purchase his first car and wanting to know about an rx8 and the potential for that...

Any ways... here goes... no one ever said you werent enjoying life... no one said you had to go to college to part... saying im narrow minded for having fun while in college and not regretting it doesnt make me as dumb as you would want me to be... lack of reality??? i work for a security services group with several special forces personnel that have shown me things that would make you cry... believe it or not i dont care... if jealousy is getting the better of you thats all fine and dandy... if its not and you just sincerely think you are better because you just worked hard out of school... for some odd reason thinking college was a walk through the park for me.. which i assure you college isnt just fun and games i had to work hard there too... then thats your choice... i tip my hat to the fact that you make more money than me... my point to saying what i said in response to your post was to simply tell you i dont regret any of my lifes decisions and i had a great time learning from them... as to the statement of me not working for anything or enjoying the value of it... ive worked while in school since i was sixteen just so i could afford my addiction of tuning cars... i pay for everything i have now and will continue to as life takes me on whatever journey... and for the sake of this post... you can say whatever you want to... im gonna take ole rems advice and not take it personally... i suggest you do the same... oh and saying sir... no matter how you take it... is a sign of respect where i come from...like i said in the previous post.. "congrats to you"... i work with military guys... but this time i am seriously done... say what you want to because im sure you have something to say... but im finished... ive spoke my truth

oh and ps... if you arent in sales why dont you please enlighten us as to you job and what it is you do... im sure some guys on this forum... such as the sixteen year old would love to be in your position

chetrickerman 11-05-2007 04:30 PM

good choice on the scion. you just might join the non retarded 16 yr old group, but make sure you do get it used.

eviltwinkie 11-05-2007 04:34 PM

Well please allow me to retort...

PS: It would take far too long to explain it...and ultimately...people should do whatever makes them happy so your question is pointless...

ok, dont make me find the special olympics picture for you two
