RX7STORE high flow cat
Hey, I wanted to see if anyone had any experience (good or bad) with the high flow cat offered by rx7store. I had read some bad reviews on the RP Supercat so decided to go another route. By bad reviews I was referring to alot of people reporting the cat was shot in as little as 7000 miles being put on it. I could find very little in regards to reviews for the rx7store cat. I live in NJ. The cops out here are crazy about stopping people with loud exhausts and stereo systems. (at least in my area of the state) I was trying to avoid any potential run ins with the cops so I opted not to get a racing pipe. So the high flow cat was the logical choice for me. There was only a slight dollar difference between the RP and the RX7Store cat. I will be installing it once I receive it and will post any gains I notice as well as any difference in the exhaust note. I will be marrying the high flow cat to my GReddy SE exhaust and stock header.

there are a couple threads on it already.
basically, from my limited knowledge, they were crapping out, but supposedly have great customer service that fixed them. i think the udpated cat is better and eliminates the problem, but i'm not sure. |
^ Yeah I read the couple threads related to the cat but very little was said. As for the RP cats, most of what I read was negative. Also the threads written about the rx7store cat were mostly from last year. I wanted some information that is more recent like the point you brought up about them switching to a new high flow cat. Thanks for the info.

Wow, no one has any input. I though I'd at least attract a couple flamers attacking me for not choosing a race pipe.

imo you cannot have your cake an eat it to
hi flo cat is going to go out pretty quickly and thats just the way it is. if you wanna try catless give it a shot...i will mention that a local guy has the greddy se with a non resonated midpipe and he has gotten two tickets for it already. or pony up for hi flo cat pipes a little more often :dunno: |
put one quality resonator in there and you'll be happy. so long as you can handle the noxious fumes.
otherwise get an AP pipe or a BHR pipe Or get an RP super cat and have a resonator welded into tit. or get the BHR pipe and have a high flow welded into it. |

OK so the high flow cat was installed yesterday. First off it has a nice tone. Its a little raspy when you back off the throttle but not bad. The pipe has no resonator so obviously your going to get a little raspiness. The car felt alot more responsive. Usually I get a nice little chirp in second. The tires definately broke loose a little more than they used to. All in all I am very pleased with the rx7store high flow cat. No code thus far and I am being told by a rep. from rx7store that I should not get a code with this midpipe. He also told me that he has only had one of these cats fail since they released them for sale and it failed on a heavily modied RX8 which mine is not.

Thanks for the information! I have an RP supercat with no issues yet...but it's good to know there are alternatives if I do encounter a problem. Thanks for posting up your experience! What catback are you running?
|
sweet! can't wait to get one myself...one day

good post. good info. i was wondering about the rx7store high flow cat as well. keep us updated.

my rp cat died and smells horrible. high flow cats are cool while they last.
|
I had an RP cat and it died as well. Sold it "as is" and the buyer gutted it to a resonated pipe.

Well I thought I'd give everyone an update on the highflow cat I purchased from rx7store. The cat obviously still is doing it's job. I had my car inspected today and it passed. I live in NJ so my inspection entails a sniff test. I havn't noticed any lack of power since the initial install and the exhaust note has not changed. I still have no CEL. I havn't put many miles on the cat since I installed it, probably under 1,000 miles. (stowed during winter) Anyways I just thought I'd give everyone a little feedback. Bottom line I recommend the cat to anyone looking for an alternative to your stock cat.

Hey I'm looking to buy one soon.. How loud is it?
I'm looking for a bit of power and a change in note on my exhaust; turboxs(full setup) was way to loud, so I think I want rx7store cat and some other aftermarket catback. How much louder than stock is it? |
Just to clarify since i'm likely about to purchase one of these cats/midpipes, the rx7store one is a direct fit correct? No welding or modification needed, just pop the stock off and bolt the new one on. I have access to a lift thankfully. Sorry for the noob-ish question but the rx7store.net's website description for the product is very minimal. Thanks =)

^^correct. though, judging from the picture, it doesn't look like there is a hanger at the tail end of the pipe....
