rx7 vs rx8
i was just wondering if the rx7 was such a hit why they decided to make the rx8 a lot slower?
doesnt this not make sense? the newer couterpart should excel in all areas in my opiinion, not be downgraded. |
The rx-8 is not the predecessor to the rx-7. It's a paralell linage, that just happens to start after the end of the rx-7 line.. that doesn't mean they won't bring the 7 back later..
They may or may not... Who knows.. Who says the 8 is a downgrade anyway?? It does excell in many many areas, it just wasn't designed as an all out sports car... |

it's not really downgraded in my opinion. They made it more reliable and mroe practical.

1) It's not "a lot" slower- a few what, 10ths of a second? Big friggin deal. And 2.)If you do ANY research on the rotary engine, you'll discover exactly what you're being told above. The RX-8 is NOT the successor to the RX-7. Notice, it has 4 doors and 4 seats. Don't you think that if they were trying to make something to compete with the RX-7, it would have had 2 doors and 2 seats?? I apologize for being so harsh, but this is one of those things you just DON'T come onto a forum and ask without doing your homework.

Wow, and I thought _I_ was being harsh :D

Mazda learned from its mistakes.
Sports car purist, and I'm one of them, love the RX-7 for what it was - a pure sports car, made to compete with the 911 and NSX at the time. But it sold in dismal numbers. It was too single minded in its purpose for its own good. And the twin turbo which allows the RX-7 to trump the RX-8 in speed, was also its "Achilles heel" in that it made the car quite unreliable. With the RX-8, Mazda has come up with a package that delivers the same "fun to drive" experience of the RX-7 (albeit a notch slower), but with a much more reliable and practical design for daily driving. They certainly could have built a faster and better RX-7 if they wanted to, but that wasn't what they were after. The numbers prove them right, more RX-8s sold in its first year, then the entire lifespan of the 3rd gen RX-7. (BTW, the new 350Z is also a tad slower than the old 300ZX twin turbo of the '90s) |
Repost. There's already been threads regarding the RX-7 versus the RX-8.
