Rx7 fd vs Rx8
I am thinking about selling my RX8 and getting a fd + a little daily driver.
Since it's not gonna be my daily driver, do you think it is worth it. I am kind of a speedjunkie, like to drive on a circuit and use it to go drifting. What do you think? |
have both!
|
If you spend your money wisely, you can setup the RX-8 to be fast on a circuit and still retain daily driveability.
|
^^^ yep. Besides FD's have so many problems. I mean I would LOVE to have an FD. Rape anything out there with ease.
but eh.. i <3 my 8 |
Problem in Belgium is, if the car doesn't come with a turbo from the factory you may not ad an turbo. And I want a rotary with low end torque. A friend off mine has an fd and has no problems and it pulls like crazy. I think even with a turbo the 8 will still be slower than a lightly modded 7.

This is how it's gonna look btw:[IMG] or [IMG]

If it's not going to be your daily driver I say go for it. But only if you have some disposable income to toss into things like possibly a new engine and higher than normal mainetenance costs.

If you do research and buy a good (taken care of) FD you wont have too many problems. What is the lastest year you can get? People over estimate the problems on these cars. Its like this site, nobody posts when their 8 is running fine but a lot post when theres a problem. Engines don't normally just go blow a seal at 5k miles, like some say. Just remember the higher the horsepower you want the less reliable it will be.

some of my friends have modified fd's. and, watching them work on their cars all the time and their passion for rotaries is what got me interested in the rx-8. i think the fd's are very cool-looking, and are also wickedly fast. in fact, my friend's silver fd rx-7 is probably the fastest car i've ever ridden in.
but i dunno if my friends didn't do something right or maybe they just need more practice. supposedly one of them dyno'ing at 500+, and i do wonder how such a light car can handle the power. the car seems to fishtail quite a bit. and their turbos do seem to break down a lot. the flip-up headlights and the black outline around the tail lights do look a bit dated as well- definitely something i'd mod if i were to get one... |
Thanks guys, it's gonna be a 1993 moddel but i will upgrade it to efini standards and try to get about 300whp out of it so that it can keep up with the porsches en M3 here in Belgium.
Btw there's no way i am gonna buy an other make, it has to be rotary. |
ill say, drop a 10 pound turbo on the 8 intercooled keep it street legal and fast on the track...
|
Like I mentioned before,it's illegal in Belgium to put a turbo on the 8.
I would love to have one like Ciao, the ozzy 8 |
move out of belgium, and mod the 8 :D
|
^^ i like how you think
|
I would love to move out of Belgium, but where should I go?
|
Hmmm. Good question. I say go to moscow.
|
put in a 3 rotor :) :) :)

I've owned both...
Stick with the 8. The FD is 10+ years old now and no matter how well taken care of you're running out of options with things you don't want to be screwing with, like bushings, even if the car is mechanically sound (chances are it isn't). I agree that people exaggerate the problems with the FD, but I also don't want to minimize them because they ARE there. You will spend time kicking it, it's just an unfortunate fact of ownership of that amazing car. The best part of owning an FD was driving it. The worst part of owning an FD was wishing you could drive it. So yeah, if you have a load of time and energy to dump into a car you may consider the FD (may I suggest a Sylvia as a daily driver). If you want to have a car you can enjoy and drive on a consistant basis while still maintaning a social life... stick with the RX-8. Either way, rotaries for the win! |
