what happened? you gonna part it out?

ouimetnick 05-03-2016 08:44 AM

Hope you and the driver of the mustang were okay. I'm sure the Mustang is at fault. I've been reading about them hitting people. :mdrmed:

D13 05-03-2016 08:49 AM

Everyone is ok. Mustang pulled out in front, but couldn't get stopped in time.

Still working with insurance company to decide the final outcome. It is a 2004 with 95k on it. Everything was running well.

Dominarian 05-03-2016 09:13 AM

Sorry man, that sucks. I'm glad everyone is ok though. Did your airbags deploy? If not, maybe they won't total it, and will help you fix it?

D13 05-03-2016 09:37 AM

Airbags did not deploy. Was a little surprised by that; must have been just below the threshold.

The front crash bar is collapsed into the radiator and the mounting points for the crash bar are offset. I am not sure the front end can be made straight. Maybe...

Red line envy 05-03-2016 10:21 AM

My area is littered with crashtangs. Not a good rep for them lol. Id like to let everyone know. If you see one of these crashtangs on the road you should do what you can to avoid it. Ive heard they come right for ya 😳

Gravey 05-03-2016 10:40 AM

Sorry to hear about your poor 8.... :'( Glad you are both ok though.

ZiG 05-03-2016 12:10 PM

Not gonna lie, my first thought was definitely "hey at least he took a mustang with him". Glad you're ok.

boricua13 05-03-2016 01:37 PM

Sorry about your 8

NotAPreppie 05-03-2016 03:32 PM

On the bright side, you now have a good platform to start a trackday toy build.

djgiron 05-03-2016 04:17 PM

This scares me everyday lol, the thought of wrecking my car (and going to jail after killing the other person). It took me over a year to find mine (09 White GT with 12k miles) and I doubt I could find another in the condition mine was in . . .

Would be nice. I just don't have the budget.

More than likely would become a science experiment. I have wondered what would happen with a supercharger feeding the center plate with the front and rear plate being for exhaust only. Though it would help to cool the middle of the engine and charge the chambers with horizontal cross flow.

Anyway...

There is definitely a certain depression. I loved the driving feel of the RX. Yes, low on power, but unbelievably enjoyable driving experience. Like a giant go-kart!

Dominarian 05-04-2016 08:13 AM

Well, how long until you know if it's fixable?

I know what you mean.. took nearly a year to find mine. I'd cry lol

Gravey 05-04-2016 11:16 AM

Hey would you look at that! I 've got a crystal white pearl 2010 R3 with climate control!!?!? WHAT?!?!? and it only has 25k on it!!! so you could buy mine for $60,000 if you really wanted to! I know... deal. of. a. lifetime.

Dominarian 05-04-2016 11:48 AM

Shut-up Gravey.

200.mph 05-04-2016 11:50 AM

Okay, the Mustang's insurance did state they are at fault and will cover the "repairs". They are sending me a list of collision centers they cover. Are there any RX8club members who are in Knoxville, TN that have recommendations of the following:

* Walker's Collision Center

* ABRA Auto Body & Glass

* King Collision Repair

* Joe Neubert Collision

* West Chevrolet

These are the "approved" locations by the Mustang's insurance. Alternatively, does anyone have any experience going outside of their providers - like my preferred Mazda shop?

ouimetnick 05-05-2016 08:58 AM

I'm not 100% sure, but I thought that they can't have an "approved" collision center, and they need to cover it regardless of where you take it. Also make sure they use genuine parts, you have a right to demand that (according to the mazda pamphlet in my glove box)

Dominarian 05-05-2016 10:15 AM

Yay! I'm glad she'll be fixed, and back in the 'pool' as you called it xD

D13 05-05-2016 01:13 PM

Well, decided to go with Walker's. Nice shop, good people, and seem to value the customers car.

After their assessment, the front end is bent and they estimate repair is greater than value. They are recommending to the insurance company that it is totaled.

Will see what the buy back value is...

Any chance they (or you) would go outside of Knoxville? Say Jefferson City? If so, I'd try for Gold Team Collision. When my Eclipse got plowed by a 350z (worse than a crushstang, IMO), they did an excellent job repairing it, considering the spare tire area was pretty well caved in.

If not, the only one I've heard of on the list besides West Chevrolet is Walker's.

Chibana 05-06-2016 12:40 PM

Specifically, if it does get repaired, make sure the hood is not replaced with a steel one. I've heard that is a common practice with repaired RX-8s (and other cars with aluminum body panels).
