RX-8's 4th Engine Died, Now What?

So at 163k, my 4th engine has died (after 65k), and its just not worth it to replace at this point on a 10 year old car, as much as I've loved the car all these years.

So...since the newest 8 would be 4 years old....what would be a good replacement car in the same relative price range. I was thinking 370Z at first, but not a fan of a 2 seater, and hard to find a higher end one in red with a manual transmission.

Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear about that, I'm on my 3rd engine myself.

How about an engine conversion? Put in an LS1 or LS2 engine and increase your horsepower.

There's the G37s if you want a 370Z with two extra seats. Other NEW 2+2 cars I considered recently were were the Subaru BRZ and Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The new Mustangs are appealing too now that they got rid of the live rear axle. Though if I had to replace my 8 today it would be a used S2000 or the new MX5 but of course those are 2 seaters.

I'd LOVE to just put a new engine in, but the reality is the cost is prohibitive on a 10 year old car. I'll look into the BRZ and Genesis. I LIKE the 370Z but finding one that meets my taste just isn't there. Of course unless its an awesome car, IMO anything else is a step down anyway from the 8.

My car is 12 years old and close to 100 000 miles on its original engine, done close to 100 track days and it is supercharged.

Generally, the rotaries do not like short trips as they carbon up so if this is your driving pattern then that could be the cause of your troubles.

No, the last 3 engine replacements were due to failing ignition coil issues. This one definitely isn't. I have the BHR in there. Not that it COULDN'T fail, but it isn't likely. My trips don't tend to be short either.
