rx-8 with winter
I already know the tricks to making the rx-8 a good winter car and have snow tires. What i want to know is what to do with a body kit. I am getting one and having it installed/painted this summer. I also plan to get coils and lower the car. Once winter comes again next year and i slap my snows back on, am i going to run into trouble with the lowered car ( i live in michigan, occasionally get some heavy snow)? I do not want to damage a body kit I pay +$2000 on, but the car is my daily driver. Let me know what you think.
Would I have to get the kit removed for the winter? Would i be better off not getting one at all? Or do you think it would do fine through the snow? |
Get an early 90's Sentra for the bad days. Spending all that money to turn your 8 into a snow plow would suck.

Are there many days when the roads around you have DEEP snow? I imagine you'd be ok if it's only 3-4 inches or under. (Around here, even when snowfall is heavy the main roads are cleared pretty fast.) Perhaps you could make other travel arrangements on the few days the snow's really deep.
If not, I wouldn't do it. |
It is usually under or around 3 inches i would say. I don't plan on purchasing a beater. Just want to know if a body kit is a bad idea for the weather or if you think it will be OK.

I think you're looking for trouble. You may need the ground clearance you're going to lose by lowering the car & adding the kit. Does the kit actually "do" anything? If its purely cosmetic, paint on some pinstripes instead.

You can always take the kit off when winter comes if you're really scared...it is doable and I think the only problem would be with the front bumper, so just swap that back to the factory bumper...There are a few DIY on how to take your bumper off around here...
Also, it really depends how much you plan on lowering the car...and what size winter tires you are running... |
NO BODY KIT! My old eclipse was lowered and I smashed just the stock bumper up driving it in the snow! I woulod get a beater for the winter if i was u

I choose to get snow tires but not to bother with the bodykit. As cool as it would be to have one...its not cool enough to throw my money away. The bad days here will RUIN your body kit. So you have two options. A) DO NOT Drive it on those bad days or B) Have a alternative car to drive. If you don't have a problem with those 2 things then you will be fine, otherwise I strongly advise against it. -Redfusion |
