i have a random rotory pic album and it was brought to my attention that this would have mixed reviews.

sebarx8 12-31-2009 01:40 PM

mmmmm rx8 el camino
the pic is too smal

RIWWP 12-31-2009 01:40 PM

I think the "mixed reviews" is an understatement.... unless it is all massive flaming :)

Granted, as a truck it would look cool and "sporty" (I hate that word, since it essentially means "isn't"), but doing that to an 8 would be appalling.

sE7ENs 12-31-2009 01:48 PM

i wouldn't own it, ive seen more than one pic of peoples ideas on how the truck version would look. i guess someone out there thinks its a good idea..

Loki 12-31-2009 01:57 PM

How about noooo lol.

CaptainEggs 12-31-2009 02:09 PM

ehh. lets keep the rotary in the RX, sport coupe club... =D

edit: it doesn't look bad, but no.. ha

sE7ENs 12-31-2009 02:09 PM

ha! maybe its an omen, but my computer is refusing to enlarge that pic.

CTrx8 12-31-2009 02:13 PM

i just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

exsequor 12-31-2009 02:19 PM

lol wtf whoever thinks thats a good idea must think rosy oddonnald is sexy.
that is straight up fugly.

el caminos were created cuz pick up trucks at the time had a shitacular ride quality and the el camino gave you the best of both worlds: a bed, and a more comfortable ride. woot woot.

I remember following the build of that 'car' over on the 7club. It's impressive what he did, just not my cup of tea.

expo1 12-31-2009 04:40 PM

Mazda tried tried a rotary truck before, the 'Mazda REPU'. I do not think they will try that again.

Herblenny 12-31-2009 04:48 PM

here's the rx trucks competition. :lol2:its the pontiac G8 truck

arlingtonrx8 12-31-2009 07:32 PM

I think it would work for people who want a sporty car that provides some utility... though the weight distribution would probably all screwed up and a renesis' 149ftlb of torque (haha, yeah I know) wouldn't really haul more than a replacement engine and 3.7 quarts of oil.

expo1 12-31-2009 07:57 PM

Kind of like the Dodge Rampage.

The REPU was cool, but only with an empty bed. Trucks need torque for pulling, and the rotary can't deliver that. Trucks are better with pistons. The rotary is for lightweight sports cars.

Bad idea.

1. Get a 2-car garage [or larger].
2. Buy your favorite sports car.
3. Buy your favorite truck.
4. If you put them in the same garage, provide condoms.

A truck without torque is pointless

sE7ENs 01-01-2010 08:14 PM

LoL! Daaaaaaaa...........

MICHGoBlue 01-02-2010 01:21 PM

Well, it would be a truck, so it'll sell a lot better in the U.S.!

valpac 01-02-2010 01:40 PM

Cuz what you really want is a truck that doesnt have enough torque to pull a jetski. No rotary trucks please.

TRZ750 01-03-2010 11:48 AM

I had a 1977 REPU for 200K+ miles. It was sold to a guy in New Zealand that races a RX7 and uses the REPU to tow the RX7. The 1977 REPU had a 5 speed (older had 4) and a slightly larger cab, but still a small truck. The key to the torque was downshifting. I used it to pull a 20' V6 powered ski boat and it could out pull many others. But I did have one serious problem. One day coming back from the Colorado river there was a sever head wind. I had to use full throttle on the down hills and downshift all the way to 2nd at times on the up hills. Used almost a full tank of gas (20 gal) to go just 185 miles! Discovered the next day that the long hard pulls had overheated my apex springs and the engine was hard to start. (Once started the springs aren't really needed as gas pressure will hopld the seals in place.) (A quick overhaul only found the springs bad.)

A Rotary truck is nice as something diffferent, but really not the best thing for the rotary engine.

sE7ENs 01-04-2010 05:40 PM

thats interesting trz. i guess if it ever came to be it should be like the chevrolet ssr. not a everyday hauler. just a different approach to a typical truck.
