rx-8 on top gear tonight.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but for the people who've never seen the top gear rx-8 review, it's on tonight on BBC America. They are showing a "lost" season. Anyway thought I'd share :)

RX8Soldier 01-02-2012 01:31 PM

is this a new review of the 8?

blazenblue63 01-02-2012 01:55 PM

No it's the old one that never aired in the USA before.

king[sized]killa 01-02-2012 01:56 PM

What time?

blazenblue63 01-02-2012 02:00 PM

For those who don't get BBC America, the segment is on YouTube:

oh yes, the ole "Double-cream" episode.

RIWWP 01-02-2012 03:23 PM

Netflix has season 2 through 15 currently. This one is in Season 3, 2nd or 3rd episode I believe.

Roidz 01-02-2012 03:50 PM

Just set up my dvr. Thanks for the heads up.

Novoken 01-02-2012 04:38 PM

he said I love it then I dont...........

StealthTL 01-02-2012 04:48 PM

Actually said "best car I've driven THIS YEAR!"

....then was embarrased into finding a stupid fault, that "the tires weren't that good in the wet."

RIWWP 01-02-2012 05:07 PM

Understandably. Because we agree that the OEM tires are garbage. :)

It stayed in 3rd on his top list of most liked cars for years. Not sure where it is now.

alnielsen 01-02-2012 05:35 PM

Does anyone remember where it was placed on the "Cool Board"?

RIWWP 01-02-2012 06:02 PM

I've watched every season twice now, and I don't believe they ever talked about it in relation to the cool wall. Many cars on the wall they never talked about, but I'd have to pause it and see if I can find it to see if it is there or not

ken-x8 01-02-2012 07:23 PM

Season 3, 2nd or 3rd episode I believe.
Season 3, Episode 5. And the YouTube clip I linked cuts off before the RX-8 piece is over. He backs off his back-off, winds up saying he really likes it.

Time on their test track matched that of a 350Z and BMW M3, which is pretty nice for us fanbois.

They've put it on the cool wall. It ended up being in the "cool" section. Richard and Jeremy were arguing about it but think it ended up there. I think they put it up after the challenge episode with the TT and Brera.

ROTARD_07 01-02-2012 07:56 PM

thought the rx8 was in a couple of episodes where jeremy and richard both drove it. and it airs at 9:00

blazenblue63 01-02-2012 09:44 PM

Well guess it wasn't tonight.... Damn time Warner cable description...

lta_ds_fs7 01-02-2012 10:06 PM

The 8 never came on!...I was so excited too...Stupid time warner cable...The description said M3 and RX8!

blazenblue63 01-02-2012 10:24 PM

Since tonight was episode 1&2 of the season and earlier was said it's in episode 5, it'll be on in 2 Weeks.

RotoRocket 01-02-2012 11:04 PM

I am really trying to stay objective here, but the 8 in stock form, is one of the best handling cars from the factory, at ANY PRICE POINT.

I believe it would have been something of a runaway sales success had Mazda split the difference on the styling between the 8 and the RX7, and had they found a way to wring out an additional 40 to 50 horsies (280ish bhp at 3100 lbs sounds about right to me). Throwing in something in terms of gearing for lower RPM freeway cruising for the sake of highway fuel economy would've helped, too.

TTAC has a great review on the R3 RX-8, where John Lieberman nails it on the handling (here's the last paragraph of the review):

And here’s the cincher: [For] $32k, you can have one of the world’s finest-handling sports cars. Don’t misunderstand me. I’m not saying that the RX-8 R3 handles well for a $32k car. I’m saying it handles better than a $320k car. Or, more importantly, whatever you’re driving.

TTAC's reviews are brutal. That the RX-8 has been consistently praised by every one of their writers who has reviewed speaks volumes.

It feels great to drive, but the numbers do not back up those statements.
