AT RX-8: Time between beep and rev limiter

Well for the past few days, I've finally gotten enough confidence to test out the beep at redline. The first time I tried it, I immediately shifted and let off the gas after hearing the beep. Today though I decided to keep on the gas while shifting the moment I heard the beep. I was surprised when it seemed like it hit the rev limiter and bounced the needle back to about 7k right at the shift. This makes me wonder, just how much "space" do you really have between the beep and the rev limiter? Sure doesn't seem like much. At what RPM does the rev limiter kick in anyways?

And as a reminder...we're talking about the automatic RX-8. ;)

The fuel cut-off is usualy about 7700-7800 rpm. I've done it many times.

Do you have any idea what the top speed of the AT is ? Is it computer limited to less than tah of the 6 speed? Tnx.

The 6-speed (or at least MY 6-speed) hits the beeper at 8500 and the rev limiter at 9300 or so (the tach is moving so fast then, that it's hard to tell exactly ...)
