RX-8 takes a long time to crank when engine is warm
Hi,
I have read a few threads where if the engine is warm and will not start, then the engine is blown, or about to blow. I don't think my engine is bad. It has 158,000 miles, runs great! And cranks great in the cold, just not when it is hot. My car has been doing this for like 1 year. I am tired of it! I have replaced the starter numerous times with an autozone lifetime replacement starter, and they only seem to last a little while before it does it again. What is the problem? Anyone else had a solution, or a cause? Are their things I can check?:Wconfused Thanks, |
Maybe you should get the compression checked....
(as is mentioned in just about EVERY hot start / no crank thread) do that and then you'll know what to do next. |
Sounds like the typical low compression situation.
If your ignition components are OK, that's the most likely explanation. |
Just curious, what happens if it is getting bad compression?

ok, check your intake see if you have oil in it. when the dealer overfilled my engine oil, I had slow warm start because engine oil would foul the spark plugs. |
Is it supposed to have oil in it? Mine always has a little in there. But oil is always on the mark, never above or below

it could cause lots of problems, such as stuck SSV valve, dirty MAF causing faulty signals. |
Well, got the compression checked. Rotor #1 was 75
Rotor 2 was 125 So, I guess I have half a car. Dumb question but will mazda replace it for free???? I have a 2004. |
8 year / 100,000 mile warranty
And if your car has had reman engine installed it's only a 1 year / 12,000 mile warranty. bs warranty lol they no there rebuilt engines wont last |

I guess ill be rebuilding the motor, or maybe replacing it.

my dealer just overfilled my 8 a week ago on the first oil change since I bought the car... 02 sensor blew later that day. had no oil in the intake, just an unfortunate coincidence. true though, never trust anyone doing an oil change om an 8!

damn!!!! Mine is due for an oil change soon, and I was going to take the car to the local dealer mostly to keep building a "relationship" with them. But if a Mazda dealer cannot even do an oil change right....I'll rather do it myself!
also buy a jug of oil and have it back after the oil change, your S1 shouldnt need more than 4qts. I was lucky to befriend with the mechanic lol.:naughty: |

Update - Got my engine rebuilt by Luis Canizales in Alabama. Luis has been buiilding rotaries since early 70s.. and built his own lap table and each engine he builds gets cranked on an engine stand. After that my car runs like a dream. He is the best of the best!

I know I had 1 rotor housing replaced as I remember. Don't remember the cost. $3,000 to 3,500?
|
Where at in AL? Do you mind sharing his info?
|
Tell him Andy Noble sent you. Luis Canizales (256) 399-6199. He is in Gadsden, AL area. If you search on google.com you will find some of his work on rotarys with Phil Sohn on his FD and other cars.
|
If Phil trusts him I'm in lol.
|
Luis made his own lap table. He cranks and tests every motor on a stand. He is a rotary brain.
|
Love it.
I've been looking for someone anywhere near me (Huntsville AL area) that knew rotaries). I'm glad someone finally popped up. |
Use him. I live below Birmingham. I dropped of my engine and let him examine it to see what all needed to replaced
