Geez... "Fire extinguisher" --- couldnt tell what he said the first time, lol. Glad they made through that ok though.

paimon.soror 12-20-2010 09:13 PM

wtf was that other car doing just sitting there

ASH8 12-20-2010 10:05 PM

Cant remember exactly what happened, I think it had a "minor" back end drift then pushing over the corners side marker posts which looks like they have been flattened??

If you pause the video around 5:19, it looks like the competitors driver and navigator were already looking at the passenger side of the car. I wonder if they were investigating the damage due to the corner markers, or if the car was already starting to ignite. Since they were so close to the vehicle, I would hope they were just investigating the damage from the corner markers.

damn, how could that car catch a fire ?

xun4gvn4everx 12-20-2010 10:40 PM

^ I am assuming from the 8 sliding into the rear of the competitors car, there was a "Pinto Effect"

Brettus 12-20-2010 10:43 PM

The burning question for me is : did the 8 lose control BEFORE seeing the other car or AFTER ?

Fascinating. I will never drive that well.

That was my question of interest as well. After rewinding multiple times and playing in slow motion, it looks to me as though the back end was kicking out before the 8 driver could see the other vehicle. But, I could be very well wrong.

Yeah, thought the same thing..

I think he started to lose it just before he visually/physically eyeballed the red car.
Then again the road could of had oil on it or coolant/water...trying to recall it??

come to think of it, I think there was oil or something on the road at that time, could have been ice, was Winter in Tassy....cant remember...;)

^ Since the red car had already fishtailed into the guardrail/corner markers, it indicates to me that there was something slippery on the road. Part of why we didn't see any other drivers slip on the video I believe is due to the fact the navigator ran up the street to warn incoming drivers of the conditions and disabled vehicles.

Just to add meaningless speculation, it looks as if the driver was on the ragged edge, but in control when he sighted the other car, but he was so out on the edge, that even the slightest effort to avoid what was now an undocumented barrier put him out.

No doubt it was slick as well.

Uh, it is quite clearly raining and the road at the impact is glassy.
It is likely that the spin was initiated by the momentary throttle lift right as the red car comes into view.

I agree, it looks like the road was wet. He already was loose on the road before that. I'm thinking that he was using dry weather tires and hydroplaning.

Damn, that was some hard core whip lash when you hit!
