rx-8 RS
At the end of the day all i want is to talk to some enthusiast that truly enjoy the the rx-8. People who don't talk about stuff they don't understand. All i want is for people to drop the fd comparisons and just talk rx-8.
Anyways that was my intro but here is my true question. What do you guys think about the rx-8 spirit r that was just announced a few days ago. For those of you who don't know, the spirit is a model of the rx-8 that will only have 1000 produced. Its mazda's farewell to the 8. It will also only be sold in japan =(. The rx-8 RS will have special badging, head lights and tailights (unique) and red and black brake calibers. It will also come in an auto or Manuel |

The Spirit R RX-8 is a Special Edition -Badged & recolored R3
Love the idea of finishing off the series with a special model, but wish Mazda would have done more than just paint & "pick & choose options" from the existing parts bin for it. The 2005 Shinka Special edition had more to distinguish itself from the rest of the series than the Spirit has from the R3 (Back at the time, the Shinka was the only one available with Blistein shocks & the Urethane-filled crossmember, besides the "love itor-hate-it" black cherry mica paint and the gorgeous piano black/parchment/sand interior). As low-cost options to set apart the Spirit, Mazda could: New, even lighter & distinctive-looking wheels Revise the front face As a true enthusiast/ connoseur car, give teh option (from the factory) to feed the OMP from a dedicated container, thus allowing true "2stroke" oil injection instead of burning the dirty crankcase oil. Distinctive paint/ spoiler. Spirit-R badging, with individually numbered placard. Add some extras from the parts/ accessories catalogue (special edition key in addition to the smart keyless card, 40 anniversry commemorative watch, hell, number the watch to match the car's placard & you bring the "game" up to supercar level with a minimum investment) You don't need to reinvent the car to make a special edition, but minding the details makes it a trully unique ownership experience. |
^ Hitachi Tokico shocks on the '05 Shinka actually.

Hideous color combo of wheels and body color...positively puke inducing.
|
haha. HAY GUYS U KNOW WHATS GREAT? Spirit R FDs!
TNC FTW!! I dunno man. I kind of like the color combo. I wish they left the Ti Grey name for the signature color though. It was good enough for the miata, it's good enough for the 8. |
I wanna go to Japan for this. If its limited and only gonna be sold in Japan, would the engine be U.S. specs? I know it could be modified and such, just sayin'.

Not US DOT approved and of course the steering wheel and pedals would be on the 'wrong' side.
