rx-8 pricing these days

How much can you get an rx-8 out the door these days? I've read a few threads where people have gotten them out the door for as low as 25k and i was just wondering if those were one time cases or are they selling for less nowadays.

I recently got a used Rx-8 04' for 18.9k. Through Edmunds it shoulda been 22k atleast. It was Black with 31k miles and a Automatic. Only problems outa the lot was the fact that A/C wasnt working but they fixed it and replaced the bradepads suckers were squeaking.

Depends. The MSRP spread from the very basic model to a fully-loaded GT with nav could be as much as $8K-$10K. So without knowing the specifics of a particular car it's impossible to define a good deal.

You can probably get big discounts on any new '05s still on the lot. Maybe as much as $6K-$7K, maybe more, off the MSRP. You might be able to get a new '06 for invoice, more or less, if you know how to negotiate and work at it. Check out an on-line car pricing site like Edmunds for invoice prices.

Finally, what someone tells you they paid for a car may or may not be true, or if true, may not be relevant in your case, in your area of the country. So take price quotes with the proverbial grain of salt.

Think i saw a 05 Winning Blue 6spd Touring with appearance package and factory spoiler going for 22K at my Mazda dealership. I think i was a pre-own 8 though.

the deals can be had, but it's not as common as you might think judging by the posts on the board.

buying used is really the only way to get a great price - or if you can find a dealer desperate to get rid of an '05. Otherwise you can expect pricing to be around dealer cost.

Personally, I always base how much I pay (if its a used car that is) on http://www.kbb.com/

It tells you how much you should pay on the car depending on condition, mileage, options and etc etc etc...

Ol1i3x 05-22-2006 10:56 PM

is there any significant differences between the 04 and the new 06s? (besides color and new key) If not im probably going to go for a new 04 with a GT package and if im lucky a navi system too. Also this is kind of off topic but if i buy an 04 should i be worried about reflashing it?

im gonna get it from browning mazda (so-cal), anyone have a similiar case as me? how much did u pay out the door

CosmosMpower 05-22-2006 11:57 PM

I paid 22 out the door for a NEW 05 leftover last month. It's a winning blue 6spd sport with appearance package and rotary accents. Car was about 20.3 plus TTL

presequel 05-23-2006 12:26 AM

there arent that many 05's left. only manuals too. nothing big between 04/05/06 for the manuals, but for the auto 06's theres a 6 port 6 speed engine now with 212hp instead of the 190 or whatever from before.

dealers are NOT budging on 06's. you get invoice + rebates. current one runs out on the 31st...after that hopefully they offer better rebates/incentives with gas prices and all.

time4akshun 05-23-2006 09:00 AM

I agree with Prequel. I got my $750 MAC rebate and $500 Car Show incentive plus a little bit more off to leave with an '06 Shinka. No dramatic $5,6,7K off on '06's like you get on leftover '05's... I needed Copper Red so '06 was only choice for me.

23.5 out the door - including TTL. Bought a brand new 05 BASE MODEL. The 06 hadn't hit the States yet, so the price should be lower now. There were plenty of base 05's then, but very few loaded models. Depending on which options you really "must have", it is likely cheaper to do mods yourself. And will likely result in better parts than Mazda is using.

New 04 bought in March of 05. See sig.

25k = car + ttl

Ouch you paid about 3000 more than what you should have for a 05 base. I was offered a few 05 base manuals for 20 flat out the door.

Thought I'd add to the pile... 2005 Brand new with 9 miles, I paid $25,700 for mine. Everything accept front/side/rear flares, accents and navigation.

I won't speculate as to why it is, but dealers are slashing prices on RX8's by an average of $5-7K like it's play money.

Granted mine was an '05, but it was brand new...buy um like this is you really wanna milk a deal! :-)

End of year - dealers got to pay taxes on them so they have to clear them out quick - if they drop the price they can take any loss off as depreciation since they are now a year out of date - that why you always buy last years (but brand new car) at this time of year! I waited and watched for mine until they started offering incentive like complete packages - Also you are more apt to get a later model so there are less errors in it and they know what recall stuff is needed - if you get one off the first run of the year there are more apt to be errors built in. Another thing helping with the cost is it takes Hi-test and gas prices went through the roof so it scared off the SUV and muscle car crowds, but it made it great for the practical crowds. The hot Mazda item for dealers is those little $13,000 babies and they can trade with each other to get enough - one RX-8 trades for about 3 of them at dealer trades.

Difference in 04s

O4's did not have a powerful a starting motor, and it could drain the battery; the 05s had a better starter motor, and the early ones had some recall issues, the later 05s had the corrections made at the Factory. Some 04s had a real rude stick, with a clutch like an old Ford truck. I tried out a used one and almost got scared off getting an 8 - it only had 1200 miles but I knew why!!! I drive a 323 stick and a duce and a half but this one had me steaming up the windows with sweat. So I tried out the automatic/stick and for my needs it was perfect - not as much take off Torque but since I am not doing any significant racing I like what I got - The 06 had an improved transmission that is supposed to give more power and torque.

Hey but what do I know - I'm just a chick and a really old wrinkly one at that! ( if you want a hoot, read my explaination to how I got my car...)

Used 04s w/sport pkg & 12-30k miles on them were going for 19-20k and FLYING off lots. I had 3 dealers going against each other for mine, had to say "no" and walk out of each place at least once & on phone w/each 2-3 times. A full month of this BS, just to get them down to 22K flat. TTL came to ~1,600, so total price was just under 22. I am inclined to believe you may be ignoring the location difference, but I have, on very rare occasions, been wrong. :mdrmed:

I be interested to hear some North East members weigh in. Overall, it is irrelevant b/c I would have bought this car if it were 40k. It's just that much fun, no?

Bought my 04 sunlight silver 6 speed with touring and navigation packages for $19k flat back in March. Car was purchased from Virginia and had only 22k miles. I found my 8 on autotrader so you might wanna check that out if you're interested in used cars.
