RX 8 by-by hello RX7?

We were at the dealer for oil change and the wife ask about the new model for RX 8.. She has a 05 and will pay off this yr.
The service advisor[ I known for 5 yrs] said" the 8 will be replaced by a new Rx7?

Anyone herd this ?

mbentley 05-02-2010 10:39 AM

That's about all anyone knows other than it's 99.9% likely to feature the 16x engine vs. the current 13b.

Google 2012 RX-7 or RX-9 and you will see as many other rumors as well as some design renderings.

Truth is only a handful of people inside Mazda know what's really going on the rest of just hope the new Rotary matches our own personal needs for the right price.

FI, 300+whp, RWD or AWD and four seats are some of mine!

MazdaRX-8SPEED 05-02-2010 11:24 AM

that would be nice... more power with same mpg as now.

MazdaRX-8SPEED 05-02-2010 11:30 AM

just found this...

"The trickle of supposedly leaked images from Mazda continue as renderings purportedly that of the 2012 Mazda RX-9 make their way onto the internet. They reveal a far less attractive incarnation of the current RX-8, with familiar dramatically flared wheel arches, open-mouthed grill and near identical bonnet bulge treatment.
According to the source, most of the obvious can be confirmed including a rear-wheel drive layout, Wankel powerplant and a limited slip differential.

The rumours surrounding the RX-9 include the engine displacement rising from 1.3 to 1.8-litres, supposedly to alleviate issues such oil consumption and poor fuel efficiency whilst the transmission is said to be a dual-clutch six speed sequential setup, similar to the Mitsubishi Evo X."

Demand pop up headlamps or something that moves around or opens up. This is part of the legacy they cut away. This looks too much like 370z imo.

My dealer told me that due to the poor fuel economy, Mazda has decided to reintroduce the rotary engine in the only package that makes sense. It's going to be the RX-F150. It'll be a quad cab pickup truck with revolutionary rear suicide doors.

It's going to be geared down really low to give it towing capacity. Top speed will be almost 43 mph. 4 gear transmission. The truck bed will be carbon fiber. XM radio is standard.

Also all models are going to be called "Super Shinka" with foam filled seat cushions and cherry mica floor mats.

Don't worry, you'll still get the 16 mpg you've come to enjoy.

They're expecting to sell out, so they're going to build as many as they can as quickly as they can for the 2012 MY. Don't worry, it won't be anything like the 2004 overstock.

heard it plenty already

Why would anyone want a truck that can only go 43mph?

You cant even keep up with semi trucks on the freeway at that speed

Gr8Bullet 05-03-2010 04:31 AM

Lulz.....

I hope they get there ish straight. If I'm gunna upgrade it better be worth it. Lol

I'd love an RX-8 follow-on with a more fuel efficient and preferably more powerful rotary engine. I need four mostly-real seats, so an RX-7 has less appeal to me.

Inside Line floated the rumor early this year that there would be an RX-7 sports coupe and a range-topper RX-9 as an RX-8 follow-on that sounds like a grand tourer to me. I'd love to see it, as I imagine that a well-done, high-20k RX-7 would sell very well, and those of us that need a family-friendly daily driver wouldn't be left out of rotary-land. If Mazda just comes with the 16X RX-7, and no RX-8 follow-on, though, I'll likely just get a used 2009/10 RX-8 and plan on an engine transplant later. :)

It's for towing the RX-8 which breaks down and possibly get a better mpg at the same time
