RX-8 gone from C&D Ten Best for 2007
Car and Driver's Ten Best for 2007 is out, and I'm sad to see the RX-8 off the list.
An explanation isn't difficult, though, as they kept the MX-5 and added the MazdaSpeed3. Could they have practically put three Mazdas on the list? In this situation, I'm afraid the oldest, previously honored car loses out. The RX-8 easily remains within my personal ten best. Apparently my tastes and priorities differ from theirs. My take on best car lists in general |
What a refreshing topic...it definitely hasn't been beaten to death before.

I think i hear taps playing somewhere...
yet i don't see anyone surprised. |
yet many people are still going to post and try to rationalize it

I didn't even know they came out with the 2007 list yet..... |
The list isn't online yet. Some subscribers have already received the January print issue in the mail. I haven't received mine yet, but the entire list was posted here:

Needs a refresh (in the hp department).
|
I'd expect some sort of revison in the 2009 MY and then it would probably be back. It's been unchanged since 03 so not entirely unexpected.
|
It had a run of a few years. Considering there are two Mazdas on the list, I think for a company their size Mazda looks very good.
|
I just got my new copy of C&D. The RX8 was in the nominated list.
|
Every member of the previous year's list is automatically nominated.
The key thing to notice is that the RX-8s spot was not taken by a competitor but by another Mazda. Haven't seen the text yet, but I assume that the G35's nomination is primarily or even entirely for the redesigned sedan, not the coupe. Took the TSX's slot. |
Well the 8 is how old? So yeah its time for the new cars to move up and for C&D to move on. Its ok we had our time and it was great. Now how many of them cars on there top what ever will make it to Top Gear show?

I was surprised that the RX8 was there in 2006, 3 yrs. running with no changes. Lets face it, C&D and all similar publications need to sell copy and they won’t do that rehashing old stories. I’m not sure any vehicle stayed on the list for three years without any changes, never mind four years. The exception might of been the first gen Miata.
For those of you that value this praise, you gotta realize that the 8 is the washed up actor of the automotive seen. It certainly won more than most, but it won’t win again unless it updates itself. That said, I think the only comparable car that really raised the bar is the 335i coupe. As for those who think for themselves, the 8 is still a great car and likely the one I’d still buy today. |

The rx8 didn't make the top ten?! I will have to sell mine and then kill myself by drinking the left over oil.
