RX-8 Factory appearance package...

I was at the dealer this weekend when the sales manager pulled out a new mailer sent by Mazdza Corporate. In it included the list of options available on the new 2004 RX-8. One of them was this "appearance package", but thats all it said. There was no further explanation as to what's included with this option.
Anyone out there have any facts on this? ANYONE?

jtdwab 03-30-2003 11:55 AM

Did you get a copy? Can you scan it in?
What were the other options listed?
Where their any prices listed?

Fill us in PLEASE. My dealer is closed on Sundays. I could kick myself because I was next to my dealer yesterday and didn't think their was any reason to stop by. I guess I will be going back to them on Monday (Dealer is about 20 miles away).

RX-EVolved 03-30-2003 12:15 PM

No copy, sorry...

...it was a dealer copy with invoice pricing on it for the various options. It was a total privledge that this guy was candid enough to have shared this newly listed and quite unbeleivable factory installed "appearance package".

There were no other options listed on this sheet that aren't allready on Mazda's website.

I will hopefully know more tomorrow as this guy is going to inquire about it with corporate.

On pins and needles til then! I was hoping someone on here had some other insight.

I wish I did have more info.

Thanks.

P.S. Welcome to the Forum.

Thank you very much for keeping us posted! Please let us know what you find out tomorrow! So the appearance package will be something we can add to our order before the time of delivery or will it need to be ordered and then installed afterwards? Not quite sure I want something like that yet, but would be good to know just incase. Thanks again!

RX-EVolved 03-30-2003 07:20 PM

I can at this point only assume that it is a factory installed option that you can request at the time you place your order. After we discovered the package on the dealer mailer, we proceeded to his web-based order system and sure enough, there it was, a checkable option pack. Although no better descriptive at all. It just said "appearance package". Could be an exterior spiff, or interior, or both... its got me waiting in anticipation!

Keep you'all posted - indeed!

I think this might be the appearance package but i'm not sure. Looks pretty sweet though.

Actually, if that's the appearance package, I think I'll pass. Any information on the add-on options would still be great though. Sometimes we don't get the same options or parts as other countries.

Gord96BRG 03-31-2003 10:52 AM

Mazda has offered an 'Appearance Package' on the Miata for the past 5 years, and for the past 3 model years there have been two different Appeararnce Packages! They all have consisted of a front spoiler/air dam, side sills, rear aero mud guards, and maybe a rear lip spoiler (not wing). That pic of the red RX-8 shows items that would be consistent with what Mazda calls an 'Appearance Package' on the Miata. There's also a GFX package for the Mazda6 that has the same air dam/sills items.

Regards,
Gordon

can't wait to get your update RX-EVolved!

the jury's still out on whether or not i'd opt for the appearance package but knowing the price and options included will definitely be helpful.

thanks!

RX-EVolved 03-31-2003 11:20 AM

This just in.... they have apparently a few different packages available. Of course all new never mentioned before on their website.
1) 2AP appearance pack(front air damn, mud guards, rear spoiler)
2) 3AP appearance pack(interior accents, contents unknown)
3) Rotary accent package(what this consists of is still unknown)

More info to come as available.

Don't you folks remember the extra body parts that we saw on the black car (the "mystery black car") at Detroit? These are the same items which people were told that might be available as accessories, and it appears that someone just found confirmation that it will be available after all.

Out of curiosity, how much do the appearance packages for the Miata go for? I love the looks of the front-air dam and I've wanted the lip-spolier all along.... Is this something where you'll just be able to take it back to the dealer and have them bolt the parts on?

zoom44 03-31-2003 12:14 PM

i'm wondering if you will be able to pick just the bits you want and leave off the others or if they will make you by the whole kit. for instance i would want the lip spoiler, air dam and those strakes that go across the vents behind the front wheels but not the side sills . but i may not have the cash to get everything at once so would get one thing at a time.

RotaryXTypeSH 03-31-2003 02:13 PM

well....

i think all the dealer add-ons are all over priced, i would just get aftermarket parts (want to be different), which might save me a few bucks too :D

You know, they DO have this stuff online these days.

According to Build a Vehicle on mazdausa.com, AP2 (small side sills and mudguards) adds $450 to the price of an '03 Miata, while AP1 (front air dam, large sills and mudguards) is $800.

RotorMotor 03-31-2003 03:10 PM

True. I apologize for my laziness. I've been trying to keep my at-work surfing to a minimum, but that hasn't gone very well lately. :D

That said, $800 isn't nearly as bad as I expected. I'm assuming that's installed and painted. Not too shabby. Thanks for the info.

KCROTOR 03-31-2003 04:09 PM

Yes, I believe the appearance package is the same as has been seen on the black "mystery" car at many auto shows. This is the same car that was at the KC auto show. The Mazda guy at the show told me that this package would be available in production in the near future. I have several pictures of the car with this package but have not been able to get them posted. If someone wants to help me I will be glad to send them.

These accessories that Puppy1 listed (gotten from a tripwire post) are also now on the "Build & Order" part of the Mazdarx-8.com website. The prices seem to match up.

There is also an option "NON MOONROOF VEHICLE" for $0. it won't let me select it, but I'm not done playing with it yet. :D

edit:

the non moonroof option has to be checked if you choose the sports package or the base 8. It has to be deselected if you have the Touring or GT package. If you choose the leather seats then you can't click the option at all because the leather is required to have the GT package and would also require a moonroof.
