rx-8 engine/transmission problems?

Im looking to buy a new car and so far im liking the rx8 the best. However, I have read many bad reviews about this car's rotary engine and transmission. Is this true?

StewC625 06-14-2007 09:15 PM

Yes, terribly true. That's why we all own them - we are masochists of the highest order.

i hate to admit it, but stew's right...

...I get off on my defective vehicle. Big selling point for me.

search it out, you'll find that most people in this forum are grounded about admitting the 8's faults. It's no more faulty then the average GM or Dodge vehicle i've ever owned.

yep,

mine sucks. you missed the bad gas and oil mileage..

and welcome. :)

beers

My 8 stole my wallet, and raped my sister... I'm just too scared to get rid of it. It says if I think about leaving it, that it will kill me...

Sounds to me like you may have neglected your car if it had time to do that. :uhh:

If my car ever did that to me I'd kick the crap outta it... oh wait it likes that. :lol2:

You gotta show it who's boss and it'll love you forever.

Yep, worst 95,000 miles I have ever driven. The fear that that one of these days something major will break is nerve racking. It teases me also by starting up every day since 2/2004 knowing that one day is might not.

All of that was after I discovered that it was molesting me...

95000 miles ??? since 2004 ? How did you do so many miles? RX-8 with 95.000 miles is more than cool

Work is 80 miles round trip. Do the math then add a couple road trips, personal use and you get 95,000 miles. I have to gas up twice a week and I still love this car.

Only you know whether you've read such reviews.

Well let's see… the typical piston engine has over a thousand moving parts—the rotary has three. Which do you think will have more problems?

reaper1 06-15-2007 09:59 AM

I take a risk every morning that it would start .

I actually spend 15 min praying so that it's start .

What a headache .

deadphoenix52 06-15-2007 09:59 AM

mine blew up the second i drove it off the dealer lot.

Just don't buy the automatic at least :spank:

donack456 06-15-2007 01:26 PM

Every car is going to have some bad reviews and some good reviews. If you follow the maintenance book I mean actually read it you should have no problem.

95,000 miles with no problems is not granteed but its possible do a search or look at the thread satisfactory rating on Rx-8 its almost 80% totally happy. Of course they admit their masochists.

typej 06-15-2007 02:31 PM

Apart from 04 auto models, I think all the problems have been eliminated ...

except fuel guzzling, RX-8 thinks that itself is a private jet or something...

I am looking to trade my 04 auto with 07 or 08 :)
