58 yo physicist here, specializing in particle accelerators, which means messing with some of everything high tech. Night job: making movies. I had VW/Audis for ~25 years but quit that when they became just another way to display relative wealth. Back in the day, I owned an RX-4 and road-raced 2-stroke motorcycles. Started flying when I was 18 and kept that up for the next 30 years: everything I could get my hands on from a 1940 Waco UPF7 to a Swearington Merlin III turboprop, to floatplanes, and sailplanes. Instruments to aerobatics, to soaring the Swiss Alps, to ridge-running the Grand Tetons, to mountain wave off of Mount Kilimanjaro.

The RX-8 came along because I was looking for an interesting toy, post-aviation. It's technically interesting, unusual, modify-able, and the best out-of-the-box handling car I've ever driven. It also presents virtually no "image". I found that Audi's attract women, but not the kind I wish to be around anymore. On the other hand, my 30 yo actress companion (who drives a stick), likes it just fine.

Depending on your state and certification, in florida it's MT and MLT and I have my certifications through the AAB for my MT license and ASCP for my MLT certification. Yeah we get all shit in the hospital, and I've learned it's ALWAYS the labs fault lol.

When I got my RX8, I honestly wasn't even thinking about getting one, it had never even crossed my mind.
Then I saw it, and sorta had to have it. Now that I've come to know the car better, it fits me well.
Not to mention, that I've always been a car freak :D

I'm 27, I slice up animals for human consumption (butcher). I Discovered the rotary engine all by chance, I was 17 years old and needed a car. Found a 87 FC, had no idea what it was. All I knew was it was a 2 door 5-speed with a/c for 800 bucks. I've been addicted ever since then. This 8 is my 4th rotary powered car.

I'm into auto mechanics, car audio, and a few other things... :smoker:

I'm an Advertising Copywriter. I write TV & radio commercials, magazine ads, outdoor billboards, digital banner ads… stuff like that. I've always been drawn to things that are original, well thought out and demonstrate clever, out-of-the-box thinking. I support the underdog and things dismissed by the majority simply because they're different and don't offer the lazy comfort of safety in numbers.

I have a Brompton folding bike, a MacBook Pro and I root for the New York Mets.

currently 19, started saving up when i was 16, worked as a tire mechanic for Firestone as my first job, went to doing construction as 2nd job at 18, right now I'm both working and receiving education at a local college (trying to major in accounting) and hoping to go work for the govt at one point but that's still a bit far for me yet. ( i guess i somewhat qualified in the nerd section since I'm majoring in accounting)

How true! At least we don't get shit from the patients, only their feces. lol.

29yr old artist that was hired by the DoD to design future combat systems for the Army, picked up the car during the first week of work(right out of college) loved it then and love it even more now.

37 year old nuclear medicine physician.

It's a poorly-understood specialty of medicine where I'm constantly dealing with either a) patients with irrational fears of radiation because the archetypal mushroom cloud is the only thing that comes to their mind when that word is used, or b) dealing with other specialists who have their own preconceived notions of what I do and perpetuate the false information amongst themselves without having a clue sometimes.

In short, the RX8 was a perfect fit for me :) I enjoy having a less-known car that I have to explain (and sometimes justify) all the time. It's special, and I've always made it a point to walk just beyond at least one standard deviation of normalcy.

I'm 17 years old, and am going to be a junior in high school come august. a couple of months ago i took the ACT for the first time and got a 27, so i guess you could say i'm at the right "nerd" level to own an 8.

as of now i work at a local ice cream and candy store. obviously i don't plan on making a living out of it. my dad and brother are both successful entrepreneurs and i hope to follow their footsteps in the business world when i move onto college and whatever comes after that.

46 yr old Construction Equipment Field Mechanic, owned 5 Rx7's and this is my second RX8.
Computer hobby nerd, Star Trek/ Star Wars, Heavy Metal, hard rock.
First fell in love with my brothers bro-in-law RX3 with a wicked 13B holley carbed monster. That little monster ate many a Vette for lunch!!
After that saved up till I could get a RX7 and the rest is history.

32, I have a Remodeling company mostly kitchens and bathrooms but have been doing a lot of commercial work lately. I come from racing in PR with whatever I had. We turbo'ed anything that had a motor. Was in the dark side for a long while racing Hondas, and Hated rotaries to death. We actually used to call them light bulbs because they just stop working at any time. Well, how wrong and misinformed I was, It only took one ride on the 8 and I just had to have it. Since then, Ive had 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen rx7's, my 8 of course and currently do all my engine work in house. build them, port them, abuse them , blow them, but most off all LOVE them to death. I'm simply a Rotary guy and a over all CAR enthusiast and will be till the day I stop breathing.

This is my first rotary powered vehicle, although I've loved the RX7s for a long time (my ex-husband owned 3 of them back in the day).

Owned quite a few Ford products in the past (1955 Fairlane, 1968 Torino GT fastback, 3 1994 Ford Probe GTs (all manual) at one point and drove them all every week, now down to the original one I bought back in 1995), GM (1961 Olds F-85, 1969 Opel GT/manual, 1971 Corvette t-top/manual), AMC (1973 Gremlin/manual), Honda (1973 Civic/manual), Mercury (1970 and 1972 Capri/manuals, 1968 Mercury Cyclone GT fastback). Not sure how nerdy I am, I'm a legal secretary at an IP law firm in the Silicon Valley so maybe that qualifies. My son is an engineer at Apple and I've learned a lot from him about Macs.

When I was looking for a new car (had bought used for many years), the most important thing for me was the fun factor. I had to have a car that was so enjoyable to drive that I would get excited just thinking about driving it, and that's what happened. I also like the fact that the RX8 isn't a car you see every day, it's 2 door/4 door, the engine is tiny compared to the hp (I have a good time showing it to people - they think it looks like a lawnmower engine - then I take them on the road and show them what it can do, until they start screaming like a little girl). ;)

All I can say is, I will never sell this car.

I studied Pharmacy Tech for 1 year in California and got my diploma (from the help of the GI Bill) and moved to Nevada and tried to apply at Vons, Walgreens, and Rite-Aid, but never got a call from them, just post card in the mail saying...thank you for your interest and will be keeping your application for 6 months for future reference, but found a job way better and a good paying job too...that's why i own a nice newer house and 2 hellasunk cars...lol

I was in the Marines before going to school but now I am using my benefits to get an education.I currently have a year left of school with a degree in Sustainable Management (ironic driving this car) and plan on going to law school after graduation. I currently work for e-bay as a sales rep and also work for united healthcare group processing insurance claims. This is my first rotary car I always wanted an rx7 but i couldn't bring myself to get one because the interior looks dated. (personal choice) I am now crazy about my 8 and will never sell it (unless its for another 8 ) but I have installed everything myself. Sometimes installation takes a while because I am not mechanically inclined but I would rather do it so I know how to fix it later.

I bought my Wife a 1979 RX-7 about 17 years ago. I've been a rotorhead ever since.

When it was time to retire from the Navy, my wife bought me my 8 as a retirement present.

21 and majoring in M.ENG. V.P. of SAE and V.P. of Energy Sustainability at my campus. Have an internship and possibly a post-graduation long term career set up in South Carolina. Always loved engineering, so I guess that goes hand-in-hand with the RX-8

I have always loved Mazdas. I was too young to remember, but I am sure it had something to do with my parents first Mazda- A 1993 RWD MPV. Cars have come and go (including those of higher market), but I still stay true to Mazdas.

I didn't start looking into rotaries until I was about 13 years old; some time before I joined rx7club and rx8club, I was already lurking the forums with my free time everyday.

When my college decision was needed to be done, I started looking into Automotive Design as a major; Franz von Holzhause was still the director of design at Mazda (designer of the Kabura and flow cars). He and many other renown designers that graduated from Art Center College of Design in Cali inspired me to look into the school and their major. After some research, I noticed the $84,000 PER YEAR tuition was beyond my reach at the age of 19, not to mention dorm and living costs. So I settled for M.ENG, which gives me an even greater opportunity to have an great starting salary.

I'm in my early 30's and an auditor for the IRS. I audit businesses and the self employed.

I've had my 8 for about 6 months now and I got it because it was quick, practical, and different. I think my next car will have to be an FD :-)
