I got a 91 chevy for the days when it's crappy out, and to go to work (I work in camden, NJ the most dangerous city in the country now!!!) I just hope the thing passes inspection because I don't wanna pay to fix it

I have a second car as well ... actually the RX8 is my 2nd car and my first car is an Audi Allroad which I will be trading in, in a few months for something new ...

My RX8 is almost a year old with 4,000 miles ... I know the feeling of not wanting to ding it up and stuff

My -8 collected dust for nearly three months while my mom toured Europe and I had her Honda Accord to tool around in. Now it's the daily driver and I couldn't be happier.

Folks, it's JUST A CAR - very nice car at that. But man, it's made to be driven! It's not like it's some rare collectible.

I bought it to drive, so that's what I do. Learned a long time ago, when the weather's crappy, stay home - way too many lunatics out there. Burn a vacation day, take a nap and watch it snow! Looks like Thursday is gonna be a snow day here!

I got the 8 to replace a 14-year-old Toyota Celica GT w/ 180k miles that won't be living much longer. (Hey, who said the replacement had to be boring?) I intend to keep the Celica for those truly horrific snow days when I can trust my own driving but not the average Washingtonian's. I'd rather smash up a 14-year-old Toy than a new 8.

Personally, I understand why some people might get a 2nd car...but I love cars and could not leave it parked because I want it clean or want to save some fuel money.

IF I was rich, probably would think a little different but I just don't understand it. I buy cars not to gawk at them but to enjoy them. It's more fun to have fun daily then to have fun 1-2 times a week...that's just basic FUN FACTOR math...LOL

I"ll take care of my 8, GOD WILLING, as best as I can because of the following:

(1) I'm spending a pretty penny on it
(2) Everything I have I'm greatful for because GOD provided it and I want to be greatful by taking care of what he gives me
(3) I want to keep it for 7-10 years if not more or permanantly

So, I understand your desire to keep it near new...but, let the old girl out to play more often...you will love it more and so will she!

Cars are ment to be driven...so go drive it!

The only thing that keeps my RX-8 off the road is winter - unfortunately that meant I put her to bed 12/1 and will bring her out sometime in March (first sunny day with no snow!).

Other than that - I drive the RX-8 80+% and my GMC Envoy sits!

Well I drove my RX yesterday into work. CO is getting some snow tonight so the RX sits when there's snow and ice on the roads or the road crews leave the sand and gravel on the roads a few days after the snow melts. Only on a good sunny day will I take it out in the winter. Bummer but that's because we are not in a warm climate state.

I commend your patience for keeping it clean, and preserving it, but go out and enjoy the thing, and let everyone else know how much you enjoy it. If its in impeccable condition, but only you and your wife know it, is it really worth the time and patience keeping it like that? You love your car enough to be careful with it, just go out and enjoy is what I'd say. But if you can afford a second car I guess it doesn't hurt.

I'm 52, I waited this long to purchase a sports car. Always been too conservative. Thought about the family and obligations first. I have a family of 4 with 5 cars. Retirement will come way too soon! I love my 8, I deserver it and I'm going to drive it until the doors fall off. If it feels good, do it! :D

I'm lucky, my other car is a BMW 540i, it's fast, quiet, handles decently and has good brakes. So, I enjoy both it and the 8 for what they are, two totally different, enjoyable rides! I can think of about 10 others I'd love to add to the list, but my lotto tickets seem to have all the wrong numbers :<(

I have had the rx8 for 1.5 years and ive ONLY PUT 4500 miles on it!!! now that its snowing again its back to being garaged!

I'm in the same boat, but for a different reason. I actually kept my 97 tracer in order to list it as my primary car under my insurance. I was surprised as hell when I found out it would cost me 500 dollars a year less to insure both of them then it would just the RX-8.

It ended up being a good idea. I travel w/ work a lot so I leave the tracer at the airport. Also driving it through the winter (good ole Wisconsin)

I have 3 other Rx7's besides my RX8. and as soon as I get 2 of them running again, I think I will be selling the RX8. Reason being, it is slowing down my project cars in terms of $$$. I like the RX8 a lot, but I don't have the Finacial freedom I used to have. What do you guys think? $ 5000 and take over payments. Is that a good deal? I have the GT 6 speed Racingbeat spring (not put on car yet), strakes rotary accents, mud guards, RacingBeat Cat Back Exaust serviced at mazda every 2800 miles (with papers to prove it), original tires 18559 HWY miles on it, and I owe 26000 on the car.

If I where to get rid of this $574 payment I could actually quit work and vacation nicely in the Philippines on my VA Disability for 6 months or until I get tired of the place. Still debating that idea. That is just an example of not being tied down with a car payment.

oh ya, I know the 5000 will be hagled down a bit by the buyer. Also I run into the problem of dealerships clearing the 2004's to make room for the 2005 RX8. I know the 2004's are 23000- 26000 with the Navigation system last I saw was 3 months ago at Romero Mazda. As I said though I need to get 2 of my RX7's running first and that will be in Febuary 2005 to get 1 up. The other one 6 months after. By then the 2004's will be cleared and what I owe will have gone down also (21200).

I never even thought about stashing my RX-8 in the garage. A car's meant to be driven, not to sit still. The car already depreciated the moment you drove it off the lot, might as well make the most of it while you have it. There's also the fact that after getting used to the 8, it's so hard to jump back into any other average car...they all feel sluggish, and they all feel like they're going to tip over everytime I take a turn.

This is a lot like those arguments with people that collect expensive fountain pens...do you use the pen, or just let it sit there, hoping it will appreciate in value? I'm on the side of "use it, and use it hard". Yes, I am a pen nut too. :D

Well, I am driving my 8 about 4K per month. No room in the garage for another cheaper car!
Guess it will be run into the ground in 4 years, but hell, maybe there will be a 9 by then
